Despite conceding a boundary in the early exchanges, Varun came away with fine powerplay figures of 2-0-7-0. Ashwin, the original spin-bowling powerplay specialist, however, had a sketchy start, with Munsey hitting him for three fours in a row.Once the powerplay ended, Jadeja entered the attack and showed how dangerous he could be on such pitches in his very first over. His first ball to Richie Berrtington slid in with the angle from around the wicket. The batter was preparing to cover the angle, but Jadeja found sharp turn to nail the middle stump. Three balls later, Jadeja got one to skid and zip off the pitch from a fairly similar spot, thumping Matthew Cross’ back pad. Cross asked for a review, but when Jadeja is in control there is only one possible result and that is the ball heading towards the stumps.Jadeja’s double-strike set the scene for Ashwin’s return to the attack. Calum MacLeod and Michael Leask are not left-handers, so Ashwin brought out all his trickery. After hiding a carrom ball away from McLeod’s swinging arc, he unfurled the reverse carrom ball, which is fairly comparable to an inswinger to a right-hander. The batter didn’t pick it, and plopped an outside edge to the cover-point region.On Wednesday, it was Afghanistan’s Gulbadin Naib who didn’t pick Ashwin’s reverse carrom-ball and was trapped lbw after missing the sweep. “I am really surprised that in the last [2019] IPL people could not pick up what I was bowling,” Ashwin told Sanjay Manjrekar on ESPNcricinfo’s videocast in 2020. “A lot of people thought I was bowling the carrom ball but actually I was bowling reverse carrom because when I would bowl that I would get a lot out of the pitch. While India’s fate isn’t in their hands at this World Cup, there is a bit of magic in the fingers and wrists of Jadeja, Ashwin and Varun.

Plus, Baltimore Orioles starter Dean Kremer could be a sneaky pick in the prop market in a matchup against the Chicago Cubs.

Tampa Bay Rays (+110) vs. New York Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays are home dogs on Tuesday against the struggling New York Yankees, who have lost 16 of their last 22 games. 

I’m going to fade New York again, especially since Carlos Rodon is on the mound. The Yanks have dropped Rodon’s last four starts, with his ERA jumping from 2.93 to 4.45 in the process. He’s given up 31 hits and 23 earned runs across 19.0 innings in that stretch. 

While Ryan Pepiot (4.40 ERA) hasn’t been great for the Rays this season, betting on the Yankees is extremely risky business right now – especially when they’re favored.

Until Rodon turns things around, he’s a must fade, as he’s taken New York out of games early by allowing five or more runs in three of his last four outings. 

Dean Kremer OVER 4.5 Strikeouts (-130)

Baltimore Orioles starter Dean Kremer returned to action after a lengthy stint on the injured list on July 3, pitching five shutout innings while striking out eight batters. 

He only threw 83 pitches, but I think the righty is undervalued at home against the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. 

The Cubbies have struck out a ton – 8.95 times per game – ranking 23rd in the league. Kremer has picked up at least five punch outs in six of his 10 outings so far in 2024, putting him in a solid position to clear this prop. 

Minnesota Twins Moneyline (-166) vs. Chicago White Sox

The Minnesota Twins are on a three-game winning streak, taking down the Chicago White Sox on Monday night – a bet I had suggested in our MLB Best Bets column. 

Now, they’ll send Bailey Ober to the mound against Erick Fedde on Tuesday. While Ober actually has a worse ERA than Fedde this season, the Twins have a better record (9-8) when Ober is on the mound than the White Sox do with Fedde (7-11).

Plus, I think the big advantage in this game comes from the bullpen. The White Sox are just 27th in Major League Baseball in bullpen ERA (4.59 ERA) while the Twins are one of the best ‘pens in the league with a 3.63 ERA. 

Given Chicago’s struggles this season, I don’t mind taking the Twins to win again.

Chelsea travel to Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon desperately seeking a response to their shock midweek defeat at Leeds, with Enzo Maresca’s title credentials under scrutiny after a damaging loss that left them nine points adrift of Arsenal.

The Blues suffered a humiliating 3-1 loss at Elland Road on Wednesday, falling two goals behind by halftime before Pedro Neto’s second-half strike proved insufficient.

The defeat represented their second loss to newly-promoted opposition this season, raising fresh doubts about their ability to maintain consistency and challenge Mikel Arteta for the Premier League.

Bournemouth present a challenge despite their own recent struggles.

The Cherries have endured a miserable November without a single victory, collecting just one point from four games while conceding 12 goals.

Tuesday’s narrow 1-0 home defeat to Everton extended their winless streak to five matches and marked their first loss at the Vitality Stadium all campaign.

Andoni Iraola’s side have plummeted from second to 14th during this barren spell, though they remain only five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with significant room for optimism.

The hosts have collected 14 of their 19 Premier League points on home soil this season, establishing the Vitality as a fortress until Everton’s breakthrough.

Chelsea arrive as clear favourites based on superior stats and historical dominance, having won 15 of 23 meetings between the two clubs.

However, the visitors face selection headaches, with Caicedo still serving his suspension after picking up five yellow cards.

The Ecuadorian’s absence is a significant blow given his pivotal role protecting the defence, and Caicedo’s presence was sorely missed against Leeds.

Chelsea boast the division’s best away attacking record with 15 goals in seven games, averaging over two goals per match. Yet, their vulnerability without Caicedo was exposed ruthlessly by Leeds, with the midfield lacking its usual protection.

While the £150,000-per-week star continues to sit out, he’s at least making himself useful in other ways.

Chelsea hold talks with Joel Ordonez as Moises Caicedo offers opinion

That is according to TEAMtalk and journalist Graeme Bailey, who report on Chelsea’s serious interest in Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez.

Chelsea have renewed contact with Ordonez’s representatives in recent weeks as they intensify their pursuit of the 21-year-old, with Caicedo also offering behind-the-scenes ‘thoughts’ about his former Independiente del Valle teammate.

The west Londoners are said to have tracked him since before his 2023 move to Belgium, maintaining long-standing interest in the player.

Caicedo and Ordonez developed their friendship during their time together at Independiente’s famed South American academy, and have remained close through international duty.

The Chelsea midfielder now appears to be playing agent, giving his verdict on Ordonez to the club’s hierarchy.

Liverpool represent significant competition for Ordonez’s signature, though.

Arne Slot’s side have monitored him closely over the past year as they desperately seek solutions to their defensive crisis. The Reds initially prioritised Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, but understand he will not depart Selhurst Park during January, forcing them to explore alternative options.

Crucially, both Club Brugge and Ordonez himself are open to a winter transfer, with England emerging as the most likely destination.

Fresh discussions between the player’s camp and Chelsea have taken place recently, building on months of established communication channels, but Man City and Tottenham are also keen.

City and Spurs have shown admiration for Ordonez, closely assessing him in recent weeks as they evaluate their own defensive requirements.

However, Chelsea and Liverpool currently lead the race after laying more groundwork, and perhaps Caicedo’s presence could prove key here in the race for Ordonez’s signature.

At first glance, it was rather head-scratching to see Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts leave his starter, Jack Flaherty, in Game 5 of the NLCS as the New York Mets uncorked run after run in the first three innings of the game.

Flaherty, through three innings of work, gave up eight earned runs on eight hits and four walks. Why would Roberts not turn to his bullpen when the Mets were rallying, up 3–1, to try to keep the game within reach?

Well, what's ahead might be on his mind. beat writer Jack Harris pointed out that a Game 6 on Sunday would be a likely bullpen game. Roberts wants to keep those arms fresh. Of course, Los Angeles has three games in the series and winning tonight would wrap it up, so it's valid to quarrel over if this was the right strategy or not for Game 5.

Importantly, the Dodgers have scored 30 runs across the first four games of this series. It's also not totally out there for Roberts to believe in the explosiveness of his offense with so much game left to play. It's certainly a more nuanced decision than it appears on the surface.

The truth is, as much as the Dodgers would love to close it out on Friday, with a 3-1 series lead they do not have as much reason as New York to be urgent. But dropping a game always runs the risk of handing momentum over to your opponent at the wrong moment.

After surviving another scare to win late on against Burnley, Liverpool play host to Atletico Madrid in the hope of taking their winning run to five games in all competitions.

The big question heading into this one centres around Alexander Isak. Will the Swede make his Liverpool debut? Or will Arne Slot force Anfield to wait slightly longer before seeing their record arrival in action? If there’s a stage to introduce one of the best strikers in the world, it is the Champions League and it is in a game that will desperately need attacking quality.

There will also be question marks about the fitness of Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones. The former took quite the knock against Burnley and has already endured fitness struggles in the early stages of the campaign. Jones, meanwhile, didn’t make the trip to Turf Moor altogether and is yet to return to training ahead of the Atletico Madrid clash.

The Spanish club also have some frustrating injury concerns. As Fabrizio Romano confirmed, Diego Simeone will be without both Julian Alvarez and Johnny Cardoso for his side’s trip to Anfield. Losing Alvarez is a particular blow for the Argentine manager.

The former Manchester City forward has been the star of the show ever since arriving in Spain and he has continued that form so far this season – scoring once and assisting once in four games.
