Spurs fans criticise Sessegnon display

Tottenham Hotspur fans have criticised Ryan Sessegnon for his display against Norwich City on Wednesday.

The summer signing from Fulham played at left-back against the Canaries at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Mourinho’s produced some incredible footballing stars – how much do you know about them?

He struggled throughout the encounter, however, and conceded a penalty after fouling Max Aarons in the box.

That came after Dele Alli had given Spurs the lead and Teemu Pukki subsequently scored from 12 yards, levelling proceedings.

Son Heung-Min scored a winner for Jose Mourinho’s men but, nevertheless, fans were disappointed with the 19-year-old’s display.

However, a number of other fans were more measured in their criticism.

Sessegnon is a versatile player and can also be deployed as a winger, and a number of supporters believe that he should not be played at left-back.

Prior to the clash with Norwich, the 19-year-old had made five Premier League appearances, with only one coming at left-back, in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton at St Mary’s.

He did play there, however, in the 2-1 FA Cup win over Middlesbrough.

Meanwhile, Spurs have a new striker target!

Liverpool: Fans slam Shrewsbury Town’s Supporters Club after accusing Jurgen Klopp of lacking respect

Loads of Liverpool fans mocked the Shrewsbury Town Supporter’s Club after they criticised Jurgen Klopp’s decision to not attend their FA Cup fourth-round replay at Anfield.

The German tactician made the call after the 2-2 draw at New Meadow that U23s boss Neil Critchley would be in the dugout for the domestic rematch, as he intends to field a similar squad that lost 5-0 to Aston Villa in the Carabao Cup. The Reds were due to play their Club World Cup semi-final against Monterry the day after so the first team flew out to the Middle East. On this occasion, Klopp insisted that his team will take their two-week winter break that they were told to respect.

A spokesman from the supporter’s club told Sky Sports that thousands of Shrews fans will miss out on seeing the Champions League-winning manager at Anfield in the flesh, which they deem to be ‘disrespectful’. However, they did describe the reduction of ticket prices as “fair”. Supporters mocked them as a result and made their feelings clear on social media.

Liverpool are amongst Boubakary Soumare’s two preferred transfer destinations

According to Le10 Sport, Boubakary Soumare is hoping for an offer from Liverpool in the coming months.

What’s the story?

Soumare was the centre of a intriguing story on transfer deadline day.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce revealed that the Magpies had a bid of £45m rejected for the Lille midfielder – however, the 20-year-old declined to make the move. The latest information says that Les Dogues could have picked up €60m (£50.6m) for his services.

Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?

It appears, though, that he still wants a move to the Premier League – the Reds and Manchester United are said to be his two choices.

Good news

With an offer on the table from a Premier League side, it could have been very easy for Soumare to strike a deal with the Toon and make the switch to St. James’ Park.

He would have been almost guaranteed game time considering the record fee that he would have cost, and it may have provided the perfect stepping stone on to bigger and better things.

However, by rejecting the approach, it shows an interesting character trait that should be taken in to consideration by Jurgen Klopp and co if they decide to make a move for him in the summer.

Here is a player who clearly believes in his own ability, and wants to play at the highest possible level. Even at 20, he is not prepared to be conservative – he is only looking to improve and move forward. No disrespect to the North East outfit, but a mid-table English club would be a step down from a side that was in the Champions League this season.

This summer will be about preparing the Anfield side for what looks to be an inevitable title defence – they are now 22 points clear at the top of the table with just 13 matches left to play. With the likes of Jordan Henderson, Georginio Wijnaldum and James Milner all approaching or already over 30, some fresh blood would not go amiss.

Soumare’s attitude indicates that he would fit in nicely on Merseyside.

Everton winger Theo Walcott says Alex Iwobi signing "really excited" him

Speaking to Goal, Everton winger Theo Walcott has revealed the Toffees signing that “really excited” him.

What did he say?

Well, the former Arsenal man was interviewed by Goal at a club event at their USM Finch Farm training ground, and was asked about summer addition Alex Iwobi.

As per BBC Sport, the Merseyside outfit brought the Nigeria international to Goodison Park in a deal that could eventually be worth up to £34m, but it hasn’t been the best of starts to his Everton career with injury issues plaguing him as he has scored two goals and provided one assist in 21 appearances in all competitions.

Nevertheless, Walcott said about the 23-year-old: “At times at Arsenal he was in and out, and he was tried in different positions. Here, I feel he can express himself a lot more and use his attributes, his skills and his energy.

“He’s a great athlete, he looks after himself. He doesn’t come to the gym with me and Mason [Holgate] yet, but I’ll try my best! He’s a great kid and he’s really settled well. I was really excited when he came having worked with him before. I knew he was always going to fit right in.”

Did he really play for us?! No Everton fan has managed to name all of these obscure Toffees players….

Can Iwobi shine now?

The first thing for the former Gunner is to stay fit consistently, but if he can it should be an exciting time for him playing under Carlo Ancelotti.

Indeed, Iwobi has said previously how he prefers to play through the middle rather than out wide, although he gets the chance to do both in his manager’s flexible 4-4-2 system – as we saw against Watford last weekend.

While he is forced to play as a left winger at times, there are also certain transitions where he can come infield and play more of an inverted No.10 role – something he has admitted suits him, as per The Athletic.

Iwobi must now take his chance to impress over the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign.

Sunderland’s Nick Allamby proving to be their unsung hero

Sunderland looked like a sinking rudderless ship earlier in the season.

Embroiled in a chaotic mess, owner Stewart Donald came under regular fire from supporters while Aiden McGeady was alienated from the squad and transfer listed.

The sacking of Jack Ross initially looked like it had backfired too – Phil Parkinson came in and won only two of his opening 14 matches.

However, there was one appointment that went severely under the radar last year and in some senses, it was equally as important as Parkinson’s.

The former Bolton boss has now led the team to just one defeat in their last 11 matches and that is not only down to the manager, but it’s also owed to Nick Allamby.

Officially named as Sunderland’s Physical Performance Coach, Allamby has become a key cog in the machine at the Stadium of Light, working on the player’s fitness and helping them to get to the required standard.

He has been a game-changing factor in Sunderland’s revival, helping take the side from a team in danger of missing out on the playoffs, to now sitting just five points off second.

Speaking about his role when he arrived, Allamby noted: “We look at what the players do over the week as an overall load – so that’s from games to training and everything else. So it’s managing that so that they can be in the best possible shape they can be over what is a long season with a lot of games to play.”

With matches played regularly over a weekend and in midweek, ensuring the players are in top-notch condition is an arduous task. However, as seen with results, it has played its part magnificently. Before defeat against Portsmouth, they were unbeaten in nine outings.

Idiots Abroad: Do you know where these famous Brits are playing now?

But what’s so prominent is the way Sunderland finish games. Since December 29th, the Black Cats have scored six goals in the second 45 minutes of play. On top of that, four of those strikes have come in the 78th minute and beyond.

Meanwhile, just 4% of the goals Sunderland have conceded this season have fallen in the final 20 minutes. In comparison, that stood at a colossal 22% last term.

Towards the back end of 2018/19, the Mackems conceded in the dying embers of games on an all too regular basis. In their final nine encounters of last season, Sunderland let in six goals in the final 20 minutes – three of which came in injury time.

It’s clear that Sunderland’s fitness wasn’t at the required level, regularly downing tools late in the match. Allamby’s appointment, therefore, has helped Parkinson’s men turn the corner.

Tottenham Hotspur: Fans praise Steven Bergwijn for his display against Aston Villa

Plenty of Tottenham Hotspur supporters were left buzzing with the display of new signing Steven Bergwijn in their 3-2 victory against Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

A Son Heung-min brace and a goal from Toby Alderweireld sealed all three points for Spurs in a topsy turvy game at Villa Park but it was the Dutch international who gained many of the plaudits from fans on social media.

It was only Bergwijn’s second appearance for the north London outfit having joined from PSV Eindhoven in January, but he seems to have slotted in seamlessly and he did indeed produce a strong performance, which can be backed up by the statistics.

In the 90 minutes, the 22-year-old played three key passes, took three shots on goal which were blocked, had a 100% crossing accuracy and won a penalty kick. Added to that, he also showed that he can contribute defensively too by winning seven ground duels, two aerial duels and four tackles (SofaScore).

His performance certainly caught the eye of plenty of Spurs fans, many of whom took to Twitter to wax lyrical about their new forward. Here is what some had to say about his display…

West Ham fans encourage Jeremy Ngakia

West Ham United have confirmed that Ryan Fredericks will be out for approximately six weeks, as shown on their official channels.

This will be a blow for the right-back – who had to have surgery on a shoulder injury sustained against Manchester City – especially as that was only his second game back after being out for four.

While it is a shame to see him out of action, Hammers fans have found consolation in Jeremy Ngakia and the fact that he will be able to come in.

One fan has suggested “it’s your time” to the teenager, while another is excited by the prospect of seeing the academy graduate playing first-team football for six weeks.

This comes as he will be directly up against Pablo Zabaleta for game time, with the ageing defender having struggled this term – most notably when he faced Newcastle United’s Allan Saint-Maximin.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings….

With the respective right-backs’ fortunes in mind, fans are convinced it is the youngster who will play, with one saying “up you step Jezza”.

There are some who even feel that he will be able to keep hold of his place regardless of Fredericks’ injury status, as one fan stated that “he ain’t budging Jeremy for me”.

This stance comes after two impressive performances against Liverpool – which saw him thrown into the deep end, having never previously represented the first-team.

Across those two matches, he made eight tackles, four clearances and three interceptions, won five aerial duels, and completed four dribbles, indicating why he is so highly regarded.

Meanwhile, West Ham fans fume over club announcement.

Arsenal fans react to Nicolas Pepe’s impressive recent form

Nicolas Pepe arrived at Arsenal in the summer under a heavy weight of expectation that was mostly founded on the fact that he cost £72m and had scored 22 goals for Lille last season.

He struggled to adapt to the Premier League initially and took 14 league games to score his first goal from open play, but there have been signs of improvement under Mikel Arteta that suggest he could still have a big role to play this term.

The Gunners continue to compete in the FA Cup so there is a chance of silverware, and if Pepe maintains his form over the last six games, in which he has recorded the highest WhoScored rating of any Premier League player, with 7.87, then Arsenal have a good chance of success.

Pepe’s stat has naturally got fans talking about him, and there has been numerous plaudits made about the player, who has done well to transform his fortunes.

In his last six league games the Ivory Coast international has made five goal contributions in wins against Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle, even earning a WhoScored rating of 10 against the latter.

One supporter suggests that Mikel Arteta deserves the credit for the winger’s turnaround in form, and given Arsenal haven’t lost in that period it would suggest that Pepe isn’t the only player the Spaniard has helped.

Others have made light of the fact that the 24-year-old was once labelled a “flop” by fans of other clubs, as he is now beginning to deliver on what was expected of him when he first signed.

Rangers fans react to Borna Barisic interest

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to react after 90min revealed that Tottenham are lining up a move for Borna Barisic as a replacement for Jan Vertonghen – they are also expected to move Danny Rose on, so the need for another left-sided defender will potentially be huge.

The exclusive report also mentions that Steven Gerrard’s side are likely to demand over £22m for the left-back.

Barisic only arrived at Ibrox in the summer of 2018 from NK Osijek in a deal worth £2.2m, but he has clearly impressed as Jose Mourinho’s side are eyeing up a move for him.

The 12-cap Croatia international has enjoyed a fine campaign so far this term, registering 14 assists in all competitions as well as two goals – 16 goal involvements for a left-back is an excellent achievement.

90min also state that Serie A outfit Roma were interested in the 27-year-old back in January, although Rangers did not want to sell one of their first-team stars mid-season.

Let’s see what the Rangers fans on Twitter have been saying about this news…

To kick off the reaction, these three fans were all in favour of moving Barisic on for the price mentioned.

Of course, his numbers this season have been exquisite and he is clearly a key member of Gerrard’s squad, but at the age of 27, it feels unlikely that Rangers will ever get close to such a fee for the Croatian, so it might be wise to move him on and invest in a younger option at left-back.

Elsewhere, another fan referred to Celtic’s sale of Kieran Tierney for £25m – referring to him as pringle hips – and said that if the Scotland international went for that much, then £22m for Barisic sounds about right.

Man Utd fans rave over Odion Ighalo cameo

Manchester United stormed to victory on Sunday afternoon, not only bolstering their chances of making the Champions League next season but also earning their first derby double over their arch-rivals, Manchester City.

Anthony Martial opened the scoring in the first half by meeting Bruno Fernandes’ deft chip from a free-kick before Scott McTominay capitalised on a massive Ederson blunder to fire home the winner in injury time to seal all three points.

It keeps the Red Devils within touching distance of Chelsea in fourth place, and fans were left raving about the impact of Odion Ighalo after his second-half cameo role.

Here’s what has been said…

Ighalo was described as “absolute class” and “excellent” while one supporter claimed he had been “different gravy” and “brilliant” since joining the club on loan in January.

It was the 30-year-old’s seventh appearance for the Red Devils, where he has already contributed three goals but he is yet to find the net in the Premier League, per Transfermarkt.

Some fans would like to see the Nigerian kept at the club past his current spell, brandishing him as “priceless” while a further member of the Old Trafford faithful couldn’t think of the last time they had a forward that held up the ball as well as him.

Another believed it would be a “no-brainer” while he was also labelled as a “beast”.

There were even comparisons made to United players past and present – one suggested Ighalo was far better than Martial will ever be with another adding that he was “infinitely” better than Romelu Lukaku.
