  • Beever-Jones on 11 WSL goals this season
  • Set to feature in double-header vs France
  • Hayes proud of striker's progress
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Beever-Jones is part of Sarina Wiegman's squad for the upcoming Euro 2025 qualifying double-header against France. The 20-year-old striker has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the Women's Super League this term, netting 11 goals in 15 appearances as Chelsea chase a fifth consecutive title.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Now a Lioness, Beever-Jones is reaping the rewards from a prolific campaign in a star-studded squad. Her 11 WSL goals have come from just 569 minutes of action, meaning she boasts comfortably the best strike rate among the top scorers in the division. Only Lauren James (13 goals) has rippled the back of the net more times for Chelsea in the league, with Beever-Jones netting a brace in the recent 8-0 win over relegated Bristol City.

  • WHAT HAYES SAID

Ahead of Chelsea's crucial game in hand against Tottenham, Hayes said: "I’m proud that a club like ours wants to develop players. She's [Beever-Jones] been with us since she was eight, she been on a journey and gone on loan to different clubs. Now she has come back here and the effort she put in for the shirt in that Bristol game was unbelievable. She set the tone for the team from the front and it [the Lionesses selection] is no more than she deserves. She's in this position on merit. She's in the squad here at Chelsea with world-class players and she's competing week in week out. She's a really warm character, really likeable, but she's really resilient. She's always asking what she needs to do to get better but she has the goal threat. You can't teach that. She's got a goal threat anywhere around the box, whether she plays at the sides or down the middle. I spoke to her this morning and I don't think she can quite believe it. She's chuffed and so are we because there's nothing better than one of your own making it."

WHAT NEXT FOR HAYES AND CHELSEA?

Hayes will look to end her hugely successful tenure at Chelsea with another league crown and a victory over Spurs would put the Blues in the driving seat ahead of a final day trip to Manchester United. It would put the Blues level on points with Manchester City and, thanks to their 8-0 thrashing of Bristol City, the west London outfit already possess a superior goal difference. City's 2-1 defeat to Arsenal last time out could prove to be the decisive result in the WSL title race.

Ratcliffe identifies new manager for Man Utd but he could be Moyes 2.0

Manchester United’s season so far has been a disaster, filled with setbacks and uninspiring performances.

After 16 games, the Red Devils are sixth in the Premier League with 27 points, having lost seven matches already.

Pressure is ever-increasing on Erik ten Hag, and if he doesn’t come up with a quick solution, his job may well be on the line, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe surprisingly lining up Graham Potter as a potential replacement, according to The Sun.

Graham Potter’s managerial stats

Potter is a 48-year-old English manager who wowed the Premier League with his breathtaking Brighton side. However, to some Premier League fans, their most vivid memory of Potter will be his time at Chelsea, which succumbed to a short, bitter ending.

Graham Potter.

The ex-Swansea boss has been out of action since his sacking in April, and he has only won one trophy in his entire career, a Swedish Cup with Östersunds in the 2016/17 season.

The English boss has managed 358 matches in his career, boasting a win percentage of 39.39%, but the table below shows how that breaks down at each club.

Graham Potter’s style of play

During his time at Chelsea, Potter struggled to implement the fluid 3-4-2-1 tactics that worked so well for the Seagulls, often fluctuating between a three-back variant or a 4-2-3-1. The lack of a clear identity, roles, and understanding cost the side severely, especially in attack, as they failed to score in 12 of his 31 matches.

Potter's philosophy relies on technical players who are comfortable in possession, work extremely hard, and are able to take risks when playing out from the back. Andre Onana is the perfect keeper for the boss, but the backline would need some re-shuffling, with Luke Shaw featuring as a wide centre-back.

The midfield is where Potter would have issues, with United’s current set of players lacking ball retention, dribbling, press resistance, and out-of-possession reliability. The forwards would also have to increase their defensive output and learn to be more direct in 1v1 scenarios.

graham-potter-championship-leeds-manager-news

As you can see, the current Manchester United squad does not already match the 3-4-2-1 system that Potter should return to, as the boss would rely on versatile players that can cover multiple roles with ease, such as Leandro Trossard, who featured as a centre forward, an attacking midfielder, and almost a left-wing back at Brighton. Unless Ratcliffe backs him in the transfer market, it is difficult to see the move working out, and his appointment certainly wouldn’t be a quick fix.

Despite Potter guaranteeing attractive football, Manchester United need a manager with experience, a clear system, the ability to deal with pressure, and the ability to manage some of the biggest personalities in football. Unfortunately, Potter’s time at Chelsea showed the above to be his downfall.

A British coach who performed well at a smaller club and struggled at a big side sounds awfully familiar, and Ratcliffe must ensure that a David Moyes-type scenario doesn’t occur again.

The Scot was backed as the man to succeed the remarkable Sir Alex Ferguson but it ended in disaster, Moyes being sacked just ten months into the role. It's a decision that arguably the Red Devils are still reeling from.

Spurs identify next signing after Werner and Dragusin

Following the official signings of both Timo Werner from RB Leipzig and Radu Dragusin from Genoa, attention turns to how Ange Postecoglou can further improve his squad before deadline day on January 31.

The departures of Eric Dier, Ashley Phillips and Djed Spence, with all three leaving on loan, free up squad space for Tottenham to make another addition.

Tottenham could now make move for "tough" centre-back to replace Eric Dier

It is widely believed that Spurs want a new midfield number eight after sealing Dragusin's arrival, with there being serious links to Chelsea star Conor Gallagher.

The England international is someone who Tottenham were seriously interested in last summer, with reliable transfer source Fabrizio Romano backing their "concrete" talks to sign him in 2023.

“I think it is difficult," said Romano on Spurs potentially signing Gallagher to GiveMeSport.

"The reality is that they like Gallagher and have done since last summer, this is not new. We know that last summer including on deadline day Tottenham tried to make it happen with Chelsea for Gallagher. They had a concrete conversation, but then Chelsea said no. Now I'm not aware of any direct negotiation between Chelsea and Tottenham for Gallagher so far, but we have to see what happens in the next weeks."

The 23-year-old has been a star player under Mauricio Pochettino this season, making 19 league appearances as their best performer by average match rating according to WhoScored.

Conor Gallagher for Chelsea

He's also Chelsea's joint-top assist maker with Cole Palmer, highlighting his importance as both a creative presence and a real source of energy in the midfield. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's future remains uncertain, and Gallagher could well be a top replacement for the Dane if he were to depart.

Tottenham see themselves as "perfect" for Gallagher

Journalist Dean Jones, speaking to GiveMeSport this week, shared an update on Tottenham's chances of signing the player this winter.

It is believed Spurs would pursue a £40-£50m deal for Gallagher if he were to become available, and the Lilywhites see themselves as the "perfect" destination for him.

"Conor Gallagher is a player they have an interest in," reported Jones.

"They find it hard to believe that he will actually become available for transfer but, if he genuinely is, they think they are the perfect club for him to end up at.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher

"If they could get Conor Gallagher for £40million to £50million, I think they would probably see that as a good deal and one that they would actually try to pursue.

"But at the moment, obviously, they have still got the problem – on an emotional level on Conor Gallagher's side of things."

The former Crystal Palace loanee has proved himself a worthy top-flight asset, and one Tottenham could really strengthen their ranks with by signing for Postecoglou.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou.

"Conor Gallagher is the new Mason Mount – a hard-working, homegrown midfielder who is underappreciated by many," said Sky Sports Analyst Joe Shread.

"Despite Chelsea's sporting directors appearing extremely open to selling him in the summer, Gallagher has quickly won the trust of Pochettino with his industry, attitude and quality."

Shoulder surgery likely to rule Will Young out for rest of the year

The batsman will now not be available if replacements are needed for the World Cup

ESPNcricinfo staff08-May-2019New Zealand batsman Will Young has made the tough decision to put shoulder surgery ahead of being a World Cup reserve and could be out of action for the rest of the year.Young is currently uncapped at international level but was due to make his Test debut in place of the injured Kane Williamson in the final Test against Bangladesh in Christchurch before the match was called off due to the terror attack in the city.He was handed a central contract last week to put him in the leading 20 players in the country and is currently part of the squad playing the Australians in Brisbane. However, at a training camp in Lincoln last month he damaged his right shoulder and while he is able to battle through the pain to bat – he made an impressive 60 in the opening match against the Australians – he is restricted in the field. So he has taken the decision to sort out the problem now rather than risk further damage.”My throwing shoulder isn’t really where it needs to be, I’ve been in quite a lot of pain throwing,” he told . I had an MRI scan the day before I flew out to Australia and the results weren’t good – I’ve done some damage in there that requires surgery. I’ve had a chat to [coach Gary Stead] and the physios and the doctors and we’ve come to the conclusion that surgery will be required on my shoulder.”So, after these games in Australia, I’m going to be returning home to get that surgery done as soon as possible and to start the lengthy rehab process – which is something I’m not looking forward to and is hugely gutting, just after it was announced that I was getting a contract.”The recovery period is six to nine months, meaning he will miss the chance of being part of the tour to Sri Lanka later in the year and probably the home series against England followed by the Test tour of Australia.”There’s a huge amount of ‘ifs’ going all the way to England as batting cover – you might get added to the squad if something bad happens to one of the top batsmen, but you’re not even guaranteed there to get a game, so there were too many ‘ifs’ to play through the pain and go down that route.”It means I’m not going over to play some club cricket in England, and perhaps be batting cover over there, but I need to be able to throw and hopefully I’ve got a few more years left in me yet. So I’ll get that throwing shoulder sorted and then hit the ground running by next New Zealand summer. I think the right decision was made to get back home, and get it sorted out as soon as possible.”

Arsenal ready to accept bids for Partey and Jorginho as transfer news shared

As Arsenal look to gain an advantage in the Premier League title race, the January transfer window could be vital. The Gunners suffered heartbreak last time out, with Manchester City eventually regaining their top spot on their way to securing a history treble in the last campaign. It is the type of heartbreak that Mikel Arteta will want to avoid this season, but after a 2-0 defeat against West Ham United, it's clear that some changes may still be needed at The Emirates.

With that said, whilst their attention could soon turn to reinforcements, reports suggest that Arsenal are ready to sell two big earners in the January transfer window in a ruthless move from the North London club.

Arsenal transfer news

The days of poor Arsenal recruitment seem to be over after a successful summer transfer window, which saw Declan Rice, David Raya, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz all arrive. Rice particularly impressed from the off, before Havertz found his feet alongside Raya, who is now firmly Arteta's number one ahead of Aaron Ramsdale. Timber, meanwhile, suffered an early injury blow and will have to wait to have a similar impact when he returns. Following those arrivals, however, the Gunners could free up some room by selling two midfielders next month.

Arteta could land Arsenal's next Bergkamp in £86m-rated "animal"

The Gunners are seemingly stepping up their search to find a new centre-forward.

ByRobbie Walls Dec 30, 2023

According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Arsenal are now ready to accept offers for both Thomas Partey and Jorginho in January as they look to make space for those potentially coming in the other direction. Given that the North London side sit two points adrift of league leaders Liverpool too, it's clear that Arsenal could do with any advantage they can get for the remainder of the season. Of course, Arteta will hope that the potential exits of Partey and Jorginho don't instead harm his side.

Arsenal must replace Partey

If Partey and Jorginho are to leave the Emirates next month, then they must replace the midfield duo – especially the former. We've seen Manchester City suffer the consequences of failing to find an adequate back-up for Rodri this season, suffering defeats against the likes of Wolverhampton Wanderers. And Arsenal must make sure to avoid suffering the same fate when it comes to Rice, with Partey currently an ideal second option for Arteta when fit. Meanwhile, the experience of a player such as Jorginho can often be invaluable in a title race and is also something that the Gunners must be wary of losing.

The potential departures could be sacrifices that turn into a good thing for Arsenal, however, given that Partey's wages reportedly sit at £200k per week and Jorginho's wages are reportedly as high as £110k per week. Given that both players are often on the cusp of Arteta's side these days too, it's fair to say that the Gunners would be clearing plenty of room on their current wage bill by sanctioning the departures of the midfield duo. When the winter window opens, they'll both be players to keep an eye on, it seems.

A marca é recorde no século 21.

Darwin Nunez breaks silence on 'just a sh*t Andy Carroll' chants from Nottingham Forest fans as Liverpool star reveals strong Jurgen Klopp dressing room message

Darwin Nunez says he didn't understand any of Nottingham Forest fans' disparaging remarks to him but was thrilled to score the winner against them.

  • Nunez mocked by Forest fans
  • Striker scores winner for Liverpool
  • Klopp tells him 'screw them'
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Nunez scored a 99th-minute winner for Liverpool to down Forest at the City Ground back in March, but before that, the Uruguayan was called a "sh*t Andy Carroll" – in reference to the former England striker who struggled at Anfield between 2011-13. Several months after that incident, the 24-year-old has broken his silence on these taunts, while revealing how manager Jurgen Klopp gave him a little pep talk.

    WHAT DARWIN NUNEZ SAID

He told : "In that game, the Forest fans were singing to me but I didn't understand anything. Thank goodness I ended up scoring the [winning] goal."

The forward added: "Then the coach [Klopp] in the locker room said 'screw them'."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Nunez joined Liverpool for a club-record £85 million fee ($108m) in 2022 but has, arguably, not lived up to that hefty price tag. The former Benfica star has scored 33 goals and bagged 17 assists in 96 appearances, but with manager Klopp leaving and forward Mohamed Salah being linked with a summer exit, more responsibility will fall on the Uruguayan to deliver at Anfield.

Journalist names new target Wolves have scouted, could replace Gomes

Gary O'Neil and Wolves find themselves in a difficult position in this month's transfer window. Despite making an £80m profit last summer, the Midlands outfit still aren't out of the woods when it comes to Financial Fair Play compliance, and that's set to shape any business they do before the deadline.

There's a chance that Wolves may sign targets on an initial loan with a later obligation or option to buy, deferring payments to next season's accounts, or they could alternatively reinvest money they generate through outgoings. Either way, there will be an emphasis on finding bargain gems for now, rather than doing headline deals. And Wolves' talent-spotters may have found one player who fits that bill.

Wolves one of six clubs keen on Rosario

According to Chris McKenna, a journalist for The Daily Mirror, Wolves are interested in Pablo Rosario at Nice. They're one of a quartet of Premier League sides "keeping an eye on" the midfielder this month, alongside Fulham, West Ham and Brentford.

Wolves have been scouting the player "in recent months" and have clearly been impressed by what they've seen, but Rosario is also attracting interest from Germany in the form of Stuttgart and Werder Bremen, so they don't exactly have a free run at the player.

Rosario offers possible Gomes solution amid Spurs interest

Rosario played for Feyenoord, Ajax and PSV during his time in youth football, but eventually left his homeland to join Nice in 2021. He's four short of a century of appearances for the south-of-France club, having tacked 17 onto his tally this season. While he's not considered undroppable by manager Francesco Farioli, he has been heavily involved, starting ten of their 18 Ligue 1 games so far this season.

While he's a defensive midfielder by trade, Rosario has featured in four different positions this season, also filling in as a centre-back, right-back and more advanced midfielder. All that chopping and changing makes it hard to assess him statistically, but it's the kind of versatility that makes him a manager's dream and an asset to any squad.

It should also be noted, given that the majority of those roles are defensive in nature, that Nice have only conceded 11 league goals this season, fewer than any side in Europe's top five leagues. Rosario deserves credit for the role he's played in that achievement.

All confirmed Premier League done deals: January transfer window 2024

ByLuke Randall Feb 1, 2024

Wolves are currently fielding interest in 2023 signing Joao Gomes, who's caught the eye of Champions League-chasing Tottenham Hotspur and could be subject to a "substantial" bid. Given that Rosario is primarily a defensive shield, he could be a short-to-medium term replacement for the Brazilian in Gary O'Neil's midfield, if indeed he does leave. In light of Wolves' FFP concerns, it might be that the money from his potential sale is directly put towards this deal, though we'll wait to see if Spurs match Wolves' asking price first.

Leeds pushing to sign 26 y/o attacker to replace Gnonto amid West Ham links

As the January transfer window enters its final stages, Leeds United are reportedly finally springing into action to potentially land some crucial reinforcements for Daniel Farke in pursuit of Championship promotion.

Leeds United transfer news

Whilst Leeds are yet to welcome a single reinforcement in the January transfer window, there's still time for things to change in dramatic fashion. The Whites' attention has seemingly been on landing a full-back this month, with the likes of Ryan Giles, Ben Johnson and Calvin Ramsay linked to Elland Road. This follows the termination of Djed Spence's loan, who endured a spell to forget in Yorkshire. Speaking on the end of Spence's loan, Farke said via BBC Sport:

"We analysed the first half of the season, especially the impressions made over the festive period. Obviously, when you make decisions in January it's not a short-term decision.

"We wanted to take the impressions of the festive period into account and share thoughts and discuss things. We came to the conclusion that we will end the loan for Djed [Spence], and he will return back to Tottenham. We are grateful for his time here and wish him all the best at Tottenham because he is a player of great potential and he's a cool guy with a really good heart."

Away from full-backs, meanwhile, the 49ers Enterprises could land an attacking reinforcement. According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Leeds are "pushing" to sign Manuel Benson from Burnley and view the winger as a priority target to replace Wilfried Gnonto, who is looking likely to join West Ham. Tavolieri posted on X:

With just over 10 days remaining in the window, Benson is certainly one to watch as Leeds push to secure his signature.

"Fantastic" Benson could be an upgrade on Gnonto

Benson, of course, played a large part in Burnley's Championship title win last season, before going on to struggle when asked to make the same impact in the Premier League. However, a move to Leeds could quickly reignite his best form and perhaps even take those at Elland Road back to the Premier League in the process. Benson's Championship stats stand out when compared to Gnonto's stats.

Benson earned deserved praise from Vincent Kompany last season, who said after Burnley's victory and the winger's goal against Bristol City:

“He’s got to score five in a row. It’s not a coincidence; it’s a skill he’s got. It’s the same as a striker being able to peel off to the back post and head it in.

Manuel Benson

“I can’t be handing solutions of how to deal with him, but it’s just the things he’s been doing since he was a kid. I’m still pushing him for tap ins- I want tap ins. In the end it’s something he’s comfortable doing and he will get goals that way. What he’s done for us is fantastic and from our side, that’s all we want."
