Minnesota Twins second baseman Willie Castro had a highlight-reel moment in Friday night's loss to the Milwaukee Brewers, but it wasn't one that left fans in awe. Instead, it left a lot of people having a good laugh at the 28-year-old's expense.

This happened in the bottom of the first inning when Castro was facing Brewers right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, who has looked very good since being called up to the majors earlier this month. With a 3-2 count and two runners on base, Misiorowski threw a nasty 96-mph slider that tailed inside. Castro took a vicious cut on it and didn't make any contact. He then folded up like a chair, ending up on the ground as Misiorowski ran back to the dugout after getting the third out of the inning in style.

That is just not something we're used to seeing from a professional hitter.

Fans had lots of jokes about it.

Misiorowski got his second win of the season after giving up just two runs in six innings of work. It looks like he's going to be a problem for hitters for a long time. Have to think Castro agrees with us on that one.

The Brazilian national team have confirmed that Arsenal defender Gabriel has suffered a thigh injury while on international duty. Gabriel suffers injury setback

The Arsenal ace was substituted in the second half of Brazil's 2-0 friendly win over Senegal at The Emirates earlier this week after picking up a muscle problem. Following the victory, manager Carlo Ancelotti offered an apology to the north London club.

When asked about Gabriel’s injury, the former Real Madrid boss said: "Bad? I don't know, he had a problem on his adductor, the medical staff have to check tomorrow. We are really sorry for this, really disappointed, when players have an injury I hope they can recover well and soon."

On Sunday, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed that the 28-year-old would miss his country's match in Lille against Tunisia this week due to this muscle injury. 

A statement reads, "Arsenal player Gabriel Magalhaes was re-evaluated this Sunday (November 16) and underwent imaging tests that revealed a muscle injury in his right thigh. Therefore, the player will not be travelling with the team to the match against Tunisia in Lille. No other player will be called up to replace him."

Can Arsenal manage without Gabriel?

If Gabriel is set for a spell out of the team, he will be sorely missed by Arsenal as they try and win their first Premier League title since 2004. The Brazilian has improved a great deal in the last couple of seasons, forming a formidable partnership with fellow centre-back William Saliba. But the Gunners have proven to be rock solid at the back, even with Saliba being out injured earlier this season. The likes of Cristhian Mosquera have come in and looked very assured in defence, and they also have Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapie as backups. But his absence is undoubtedly a blow.

Arsenal sit top of the Premier League and hold a four-point cushion over a rejuvenated Manchester City. The Gunners return to league action on November 23 for the latest edition of the North London Derby against Tottenham at The Emirates. Whether Gabriel will be fit for that remains to be seen.

Rasmus Hojlund is thriving out on loan at Napoli currently and a new update claims that a permanent switch there from Manchester United is already close.

The £87,000-a-week Dane found it tough to shine in a Red Devils shirt after joining in a big-money move from Atalanta, proving to be one of many disappointing young signings at Old Trafford in recent years.

Last season, Hojlund only managed four goals in 32 appearances in the Premier League, not offering enough consistency leading the line, and it felt right for him to enjoy a new challenge.

The 22-year-old was shipped out on loan to Napoli during the summer transfer window, and he is enjoying a far more fruitful time of things in Germany, already netting twice in five Serie A outings, and also bagging a couple of goals in the Champions League.

It remains to be seen if Ruben Amorim sees a long-term future for Hojlund at United, but a new update suggests that a permanent exit is far more likley than him returning to Old Trafford.

Napoli close to permanent Hojlund move and now want Mainoo

According to a key claim from Caught Offside‘s Mark Brus, Napoli now want to trigger the buy clause in Hojlund’s Manchester United contract once this season comes to an end. Talks have been held and a deal looks set to be finalised ready for the summer.

“Napoli are confident. They’re in a strong position with the buy clause and they’re ready to activate it. Talks have been taking place and it should be finalised soon, ready to formally go through at the end of the season.”

It is also stated that Napoli want to sign Man Utd midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in the January transfer window, with the England international “likely to push for a move away” from the club.

There is a certain risk in United allowing Hojlund to leave, considering he is still young, but they now have Benjamin Sesko in their ranks, suggesting that they have moved on from the Denmark international.

With all due respect to Serie A, it is a weaker division than the Premier League, so he is naturally standing out more – Scott McTominay was arguably the best player in the whole league last season, which speaks volumes – and he has struggled with the pace of English football.

Hojlund may simply be one of many transfers that just hasn’t worked out for United, but that’s not to say he can’t still enjoy a strong career for club and country. He possesses plenty of attributes, from speed to power, but his finishing is inconsistent and the Red Devils need a far more prolific figure to lead the line.

Granted, Sesko is still finding his feet and hasn’t exactly been perfect yet, but the likes of Amorim and Jason Wilcox seem to be confident in him being an upgrade on Hojlund, and they need to be trusted after this recent improved run of form.

As for Mainoo, on just £25,000-a-week, it would be a shame to see such a talented homegrown player leave, but if United’s manager doesn’t see him as an important part of his plans, a move away may be best for all concerned.

Let’s make no mistake about it: Liverpool were outfought and outthought against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium. That’s four Premier League defeats in a row for Arne Slot’s side, and the crisis has very much deepened.

Will it get worse? Here is a team so well equipped for the trials and tribulations of the campaign, having won the Premier League at a canter last year and only improving, ostensibly, across the summer transfer window.

But this has not been the case. Barring Hugo Ekitike, practically all of Liverpool’s summer additions have fallen by the wayside under Slot’s wing. However, the likes of Mohamed Salah have failed to lead by example.

Salah did score late on, a fine goal after being dropped in midweek. But it was too little too late, with so many Redman flattering to deceive.

Salah has been among the most heavily criticised Liverpool players this season. And the rebuke has been justifiable. But the 33-year-old returned to goalscoring form and will now build on that.

However, Florian Wirtz still leaves so much to be desired in the Premier League. The £116m summer signing from Bayer Leverkusen racked up two assists on Wednesday evening against Eintracht Frankfurt, but he still looks a shadow of the world-class prospect under Xabi Alonso’s wing in Germany.

He just doesn’t look right in his playmaking berth. Mismanaged and misutilised? Certainly so. However, Wirtz has been abject in the Premier League and he squandered a glorious chance to break his duck in west London.

Milos Kerkez might be the pick of a bad bunch. Signed from Bournemouth for £45m in July, the 21-year-old has been woeful all season, unable to demonstrate any of the athletic qualities that earned him such esteem last year.

There’s another senior star who has been inexcusably bad of late, and he is threatening to become the club’s new version of Jordan Henderson.

For so many years, Virgil van Dijk has been an indomitable force in defence for Liverpool. But he’s the captain, and he’s on a sinking ship right now.

Questionable decision-making and bereft of confidence, the Dutchman is in danger of becoming the next Henderson, who led Liverpool to so much glory in his time but ended his time at Anfield with a whimper.

Henderson, 35, was part of the Brentford side who defeated Slot’s team on Saturday, and he showcased his leadership and experience to steer his side to a priceless win. Van Dijk was the polar opposite as he failed to manage his troops.

The Liverpool Echo gave the skipper a 5/10 match rating, but in truth, that’s almost generous. Van Dijk has not even a semblance of coherence on the left side with the struggling Milos Kerkez, and Liverpool are altogether spinning out of control, with their most experienced and unflappable defender at the epicentre.

You might say Van Dijk was unlucky to have conceded a soft, and ultimately damning, penalty on the hour mark, swinging his leg out to meet Dango Ouattara’s own and falling victim to a tight VAR call.

But then you might also point toward the longer stretch of dismal form from the esteemed Dutchman, who, aged 34, will start facing questions over whether he has lost something crucial to his game, and whether that special something is now irretrievable.

This is what happened to Henderson during those final days. Sold to Al-Ettifaq in 2023, the England international was among the biggest scapegoats as Liverpool toiled throughout 2022/23, missing out on Champions League qualification. Might history be repeating itself here?

Perhaps most concerning of all is the sense that Liverpool need to spend big money on new defenders, having just emerged from a record-breaking summer transfer window with a wealth of elite recruits and having smashed the British transfer record not once but twice.

Liverpool are being consistently outplayed in the Premier League. Slot needs to change things fast, else this calamitous situation will devolve into something far graver for the Dutch tactician.

The last year or so has been pretty depressing for West Ham United, but the squad does have some real talent in it.

Summer signings Mateus Fernandes and Soungoutou Magassa could develop into regular starters; Lucas Paqueta’s quality is undeniable, and El Hadji Malick Diouf looks like one of the best left-backs in the Premier League.

However, the crown jewel in Nuno Espírito Santo’s current side is undoubtedly Jarrod Bowen, who continues to be a difference-maker for the Hammers.

Yet, there is another player in the squad who could, under the new management, develop into a Bowen-style star for West Ham.

When West Ham signed Bowen from Hull City in January 2020, there was some excitement over the move, as there is for most attacking additions, but it didn’t feel like it was going to be a particularly important signing at the time.

That opinion wasn’t really changed by the end of that season either, as while he didn’t do poorly, a return of one goal and four assists in 13 games wasn’t much to write home about.

Things started to pick up slightly the following season, as the promising winger produced 14 goal involvements in 40 games, but it was over the next two years that he began to establish himself as one of the best in the league.

For example, the 28-year-old ended the 21/22 season with a tally of 31 goal involvements and his first England cap, and then 22/23 delivered his defining moment as a Hammer.

That moment, of course, was the Conference League winning goal against Fiorentina, which not only brought the club their first European trophy but also cemented his legacy as a legend.

Since then, the former Hull gem has continued to perform and, as things stand, has made 246 appearances for the club, totalling 19611 minutes, in which he’s scored 77 goals and provided 52 assists.

That works out to an average of a goal involvement every 1.90 games, or every 152.02 minutes.

So, if Nuno can help develop another of West Ham’s attackers into a Bowen-type player this season, the club could end up having a memorable campaign.

The West Ham star who could become a Bowen-type player

Unfortunately, with West Ham’s attack not being particularly threatening at the moment, there is only really one player who could be developed into a Bowen-type star: Crysencio Summerville.

Now, the first thing to say is that no, the former Leeds United star is not as good a player as the Englishman, and is unlikely to become so in the next couple of seasons.

However, that does not mean he cannot become a player in his mould, or in other words, a winger who can provide a genuine threat from out wide, be that through goals, assists or their overall play.

Fortunately, the Dutchman is already starting to show positive signs this season, so getting that bit more out of him, like he did with his wingers at Nottingham Forest, shouldn’t be too much of a challenge for Nuno.

For example, while the 23-year-old was fairly anonymous away to Arsenal last weekend, he was brilliant away to Everton the week before.

In fact, the “unstoppable” Rotterdam-born dynamo, as dubbed by Statman Dave, was so good that he was named the Man of the Match, despite not scoring the equalising goal.

In his 77 minutes of action, he completed three of his five dribbles, more than anyone else on the night, won five of eight ground duels, amassed a combined expected goal and assists figure of 0.67, took 55 touches, played one key pass and won two fouls.

Finally, while the right-footed game-changer hasn’t been much of a goal threat in East London, he has it in his locker, as in his final campaign with Leeds, he racked up a tally of 21 goals and ten assists in 41 games.

Ultimately, Summerville is obviously not as good a player as Bowen and likely won’t be, but with more coaching, he could easily become someone West Ham can rely on in a similar way.

Defeat for Durham leaves them fifth.Lamb has been in fine form so far this season and she continued her hot streak as she cruised to a half-century from 62 balls.With 20-year-old debutant Tilly Kesteven for company, the opening pair had built a first wicket partnership of 72 when Kesteven holed out to Suzie Bates at mid-on off Mady Villiers for 17. Villers struck again when she enticed Katie Mack down the pitch with the Australian stumped for 5.Any chance of a Lancashire wobble was quickly settled by Seren Smale who joined Lamb in taking the score serenely to 142 before the third wicket fell when the Lamb was bowled by Katy Levick.Skipper Ellie Threlkeld edged Grace Thompson for 12 with Sophie Ecclestone doing the same soon after for 2 but when Smale was brilliantly caught on the boundary by Thompson for 37 off Villiers, the hosts had the platform at 192 for 6 with ten overs remaining.Cameos from Kate Cross (24) and Tara Norris (15) gave the innings impetus with Phoebe Turner able to pick up some cheap wickets to finish with 3 for 41 as Lancashire were bowled out for 239 with two balls of the last over remaining.Durham had been wasteful with their extras, conceding 30 wides, and they were immediately shown the advantages of bowling straight by Mahika Gaur whose excellent first over accounted for Emma Marlow without scoring.But with Bates and skipper Hollie Armitage at the crease, Durham could still look at the target without trepidation and the second-wicket pair cruised their way to a 50 partnership.An excellent steepling catch from Cross off Grace Potts eventually accounted for Armitage for 47 and when Villiers departed for 4, caught by Ecclestone off Morris, quickly followed by Mia Rogers, caught by Lamb to give Morris another wicket, the game was back in the balance at 90 for 4.Ecclestone against Bates looked like the key contest and the England slow left armer looked to have the ball on a string as the Australian and fellow batter, Heath, survived numerous leg-before appeals to take the score to 155 when Heath mistimed a drive off Gaur to Cross for 45.Morris struck again to bowl Bates for 63 with one which kept low and suddenly Lancashire were favourites again with Durham on 170 for 6 and still requiring 71 runs for victory.While most were looking to Ecclestone to make the inroads, it was Morris who stole the spotlight, and she claimed her fourth victim with a caught-and-bowled to dismiss Katherine Fraser for one before snaring her first five-wicket haul in List A cricket when she bowled Phoebe Turner for 13.Cross returned to take the last wicket as Mack juggled a catch on the boundary to leave Durham all out for 204.

Liverpool have made an approach for a young Brazilian player who could have a massive future in the game, with another Premier League club also in the mix.

Praise for Wirtz ahead of Liverpool Everton clash

The Reds host Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime, with Florian Wirtz expected to be a key figure throughout at Anfield.

Liverpool’s big-money summer signing is improving all the time, as he adjusts to life at a huge club, with teammate Jeremie Frimpong praising him after the 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid: “He’s just getting started, you know? Obviously I’ve been with him for four years in Leverkusen, so I know what he can do. I’m seeing that it’s coming, there’s a lot more to see from him.”

Meanwhile, Arne Slot has also spoken positively about Wirtz, stressing the importance of remembering that he is still a very young footballer who is getting used to a new league.

“He was indeed a few times close to scoring a goal, he was also a few times close to assisting a goal,” Slot told reporters at Anfield. I think he was the one who created the most chances for us today. I can see with him as well also that he’s getting fitter and fitter and adjusting more and more to us, which is normal, you need a bit of time to adjust.

“We all know how much quality he has, but sometimes people forget that he’s a 22-year-old that comes for the first time abroad. Last year I came when I was 46 and it was my first time that I started working abroad, the first two or three months your whole life is changing.”

Liverpool make approach for Brazilian teenager

Speaking of youngsters, a new report from ESPN Brazil claims that Liverpool have made an approach for Gremio goalkeeper Gabriel Menegon, with the 16-year-old a highly-rated young prospect and already standing at an impressive 1.96m, bigger than Reds captain Virgil van Dijk (1.95m).

While he is now a part of Brazil’s Under-17s side, Megenon is expected to join Gremio’s senior side soon, with Nottingham Forest also in the race alongside the Reds and sporting director Richard Hughes.

Signing the best young talent around should always be at the forefront of Liverpool’s thinking, and in Menegon, they could have a very special player on their hands.

The Brazilian has one cap at Under-17 level for his country, and, in the long run, could be a future part of the senior squad. Alisson and Ederson are currently Brazil’s elite options, but over time, Menegon could be the next star keeper.

The latest player to arrive was versatile full-back James Justin, who signed a four-year deal in Yorkshire after suffering relegation with Leicester City last season.

Despite having less than 12 months left on his deal, Leeds forked out £10m for Justin, who said after signing for the Whites:

“Obviously to join a club of this size and to have the history it has had, and being back in the Premier League was a massive thing for me, so I’m over the moon to have joined.

“It’s been a while since I’ve known of the interest, but obviously I was still a Leicester player, so I had to give my all for Leicester whilst I was there. That’s something obviously that you can expect from me when I put on a Leeds shirt, is to give my all when I’m on the pitch. But for it to finally have happened, it’s taken a weight off my shoulders for sure.

“Everyone that I’ve spoken to about the club and the area has had great things to say about it. So I’m excited to join the lads and get to work.”

Leeds ready to sell £3m Isaac Schmidt after signing Justin

According to reliable reporter Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Leeds are now in talks to sell Isaac Schmidt to German side Werder Bremen on a permanent basis.

Signed for £2.5m from Swiss side FC St Gallen last season, Schmidt could now depart for a profit, with the 49ers in line to receive £3m.

Farke, who used Schmidt in pre-season while Jayden Bogle was out injured, praised the full-back last season, admitting he was “impressed” with the Switzerland international.

“I’m not surprised — he’s played in several different positions. What I like about Isaac is lots of competition, Firpo is playing outstanding, Bogle the same. It’s a joke that Byram who has good points per game doesn’t play. It’s tough for Isaac. He came after not playing in English football. He needed to adapt but longer with us longer he impressed. I like his attitude.”

However, with regular football not on offer for Schmidt in England ahead of the 2026 World Cup, a permanent move away seems to be best for all involved, especially following Justin’s arrival.
