Speaking to Football Insider, BBC Radio 5 Live pundit Alan Hutton has heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur following the signing of Argentina international Cristian Romero.

As confirmed by the club, new manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been significantly reinforced by the arrival of Romero from Atalanta as their third major summer signing.

The 23-year-old, who won the 2020/21 Serie A MVP award for best defender, enjoyed a brilliant season at the Gewiss Stadium which prompted serious interest from Spurs.

After long and drawn-out talks, Tottenham announced his signing on August 6, with Hutton now heaping praise on the club for an ambitious move.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender has waxed lyrical over the signing of Romero, highlighting it as a real show of ambition from the Lilywhites and managing director Fabio Paratici.

“It’s a great display of ambition from Spurs,” Hutton explained.

“It was Paratici who brought him to Juventus from Genoa, so it’s a player he knows really well and trusts.

“It’s a big fee but he’s at an age now where he is playing at a high level as an established first-team player.

“Centre-back is an area that Spurs have been crying out to strengthen, with Alderweireld and Vertonghen departing recently.

“They need to establish a new centre-back dynamic, and that’s why they have spent the money on a very good player who is known by the backroom staff.

“I hope he can adapt to the league very quickly as there’ll be a lot of pressure on him to succeed.”

The Verdict: Huge coup…

Starting 29 Italian top-flight matches last season, Romero made more interceptions per game (3.1) than any Tottenham player did in the Premier League, whilst also winning a superior amount of aerial duels in that time (WhoScored).

These impressive numbers highlight why Spurs brought him to north London and perhaps indicate that he can fix Spurs’ long-time central defensive issues.

Hutton has every right to brand Romero’s signing as an ambitious one and Lilywhites supporters will hope that it ends up being a transformative acquisition.

Tim Spiers has delivered a killer blow with an update on Wolves star Pedro Neto’s injury situation.

According to The Athletic’s Tim Spiers, Wolves winger Pedro Neto has suffered a setback in his recovery from a dislocated kneecap and is now due to be out until February 2022.

The report claims that he was initially expected to return to training in October, following the injury that he sustained in April of this year. He is now set to watch on from the sidelines for the rest of the year and the start of 2022.

Lage will be gutted

Wolves boss Bruno Lage will be gutted with this news as he will surely want to work with the best possible players this season and Neto was one of the club’s top performers in the Premier League last term.

An update has emerged on Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, regarding Tottenham’s interest in his services.

What’s the talk?

According to TuttoSport, Tottenham chief Fabio Paratici is in negotiations with his former club Juventus over a potential swap deal involving Weston McKennie and Tanguy Ndombele.

The report claims that Spurs are interested in landing the USA international and are prepared to use Ndombele as a makeweight, with the Frenchman having been a target for the Italian giants prior to his time in England.

Nuno would love him

Paratici must ensure that he can get this deal over the line as it could be a fantastic piece of business. Ndombele has reportedly made it clear to the club that he wants to leave, which means that Spurs have little over a week to find him a new team and replace him. This proposed transfer would solve both issues in one fell swoop.

Spurs could get rid of Ndombele and replace him in this swap deal, getting a young player with potential in return. The ex-Lyon man produced three goals and three assists from midfield in the Premier League for the club last season and it would be disappointing to see him go, but if Levy and Paratici can get McKennie in exchange for him, then it would soften the blow.

Former Schalke coach David Wagner hailed McKennie as an outstanding talent before the midfielder secured a move to Juventus. He said:

“He’s an outstanding talent. In the No.6 or No.8 position he has the mentality, a real working mentality that you need. And he’s brave on the ball as well.

“He’s also very good in the air and he’s young, so there is a lot more to come but we’re very happy to have him in our team.”

This highlights why Nuno Santo would love the £40k-per-week beast. He is, as Wagner explained, a hard-working player with quality and the potential to improve further. McKennie has already played in the Bundesliga, Champions League and Serie A by the age of 22, which shows that he has the quality to play at the top level and that he has mounds of experience at a young age.

Santo would love coaching McKennie to help him fulfil his potential, whilst being able to call upon him in the Premier League. The USA international chipped in with five goals and two assists in the Serie A last season, whilst also averaging one tackle and 0.8 key passes per game despite coming off the bench in 18 of his appearances. This suggests that he has the ability to make an impact in the short-term at Tottenham, whilst also having the scope to improve over the years.

This is a deal that Paratici should look to push through.

Vincent said he considered his New Zealand career over when he was dropped for the home series against Bangladesh in December 2007; New Zealand Cricket terminated his contract in February this year when he joined the league.”I haven’t considered it [playing again for New Zealand],” Vincent told . “At this stage it is way out of my mind because we’re not allowed to play.
