Everton fans react to Salomon Rondon rumour

Everton have been offered the chance to sign striker Salomon Rondon, according to Ekrem Konur.

The Venezuelan has experience of the Premier League after spells with West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United. The Baggies paid £15.3m to sign him from Zenit St Petersburg in 2015, and three years later he headed to Tyneside on a season-long loan.

Could Rondon link up with Benitez for a third time?

Rondon was managed by Rafael Benitez, now Everton’s manager, while at St James’ Park. He scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 33 games under the Spaniard’s tutelage at Newcastle, and they would later reunite at Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang in the summer of 2019.

He has played 140 Premier League games throughout his career, scoring 35 goals in the division to give him a return of one every four matches, which wouldn’t mark him out as a hugely prolific player.

Rondon, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at CSKA Moscow, is into the final 18 months of his contract with the club. The 31-year-old is valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt.

Everton could be in the market for a back-up to Dominic Calvert-Lewin after Josh King left at the end of his contract.

Fan feed Toffee TV relayed the rumour, and here’s what some supporters made of it, with many unconvinced by Rondon.

Defeat-ridden Bangladesh seek turnaround

Cricinfo previews the Group A match between Bangladesh and UAE in Lahore

Big PictureTournament openers usually feature two high-profile teams giving it their best to set the tone for the coming weeks, but the fixture tomorrow at the Gaddafi Stadium will struggle to live up to that billing. It won’t be fair to call Bangladesh minnows, especially after their two spectacular upsets in the last World Cup, but recent form indicates they have plenty of catching up to do. After thumping a dazed South Africa in Providence last May, reality hit them hard with 14 consecutive losses. A 3-0 clean sweep at home against Ireland turned out to be only a temporary respite, as they now find themselves on a seven-match losing streak. Bangladesh, who have everything to lose, will expect nothing less than a big win to reverse the trend and make the second round.UAE, incidentally, last played official international cricket in the 2004 Asia Cup. Their solitary ODI win came 12 years ago, against Netherlands in their maiden World Cup appearance. After clinching the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 title in December, beating neighbours Oman, they slumped to four defeats in the Pro Arch trophy at home in March, against English counties. Traditionally a team of Asian expats, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has imposed a quota system to encourage more home-grown talent by including four locals in the squad.Form guide (most recent first)
Bangladesh LLLLL
UAE LLWLL (one-day internationals only)Watch out for…Saqib Ali: The UAE captain, originally from Pakistan, was the only bright spot in UAE’s recent Intercontinental Cup campaign, which included one win in seven games. Saqib was the overall leading run-scorer with 690 runs in seven games at 57.50. A handy off-break bowler, he was the leading wicket-taker for UAE in the Pro Arch trophy with six wickets in four games.Raqibul Hassan: Just nine one-dayers old, Raqibul has already made a name for himself as a steady middle-order batsman with the ability to graft and build an innings. He impressed with 63 in his second one-dayer, against South Africa, and in the Kitply Cup enhanced his reputation with 89 against India. His knock – which took Bangladesh to a respectable total – was incidentally the best for a Bangladesh batsman against India.Team newsBangladesh are likely to stick to the same line-up as in their previous game at the Kitply Cup against India. However, the form of their medium pacers – Farhad Reza, Dolar Mahmud and Shahadat Hossain – is a cause for worry as all leaked runs in excess of 7.50 runs per over in the tournament.Bangladesh (probable): 1 Tamim Iqbal, 2 Nazimuddin, 3 Mohammad Ashraful (capt), 4 Raqibul Hasan, 5 Alok Kapali, 6 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 7 Mahmudullah, 8 Farhad Reza , 9 Mashrafe Mortaza, 10 Abdur Razzak, 11 Dolar MahmudUAE (From) Saqib Ali (capt), Fahad Alhashmi, Alawi Shukri, Aman Ali, Amjad Ali (wk), Amjad Javed, Arshad Ali, Indika Batuwitarachchi, Nizel Fernandes, Khurram Khan, Mohammad Tauqir, Salman Farooq, Shadeep Silva, Vikrant Shetty, Zahid ShahPitch and conditionsFollowing heavy rains last week, the weather in Lahore is fortunately sunny and pleasant. Batsmen have enjoyed the surface at the Gaddafi Stadium, with an average run-rate of 5.46 in day-night games over the last five years.Stats and Trivia In UAE’s 15-member squad, only three players – Khurram Khan, Mohammad Tauqir and Arshad Ali – have played one-day internationals. Bangladesh’s 285 for 7 in Lahore in April is their highest team total in ODIs away from home. Arshad Ali and Khurram Khan were the leading wicket-takers for UAE in the ICC Intercontinental Cup with 17 wickets each. Khurram captained UAE in the 2004 Asia Cup.UAE lost both games in the 2004 edition, to India and Sri Lanka, by the identical margin of runs – 116.Quotes”We’ll take it one game at a time. We are definitely stronger than UAE and we know that a win on Tuesday would take us into the next round. We are very confident.”
Mohammad Ashraful, the Bangladesh captain, fires his opening salvo.”We have been beaten but against the likes of India, Pakistan and South Africa who are very, very good sides. Players like Raqibul (Hassan) and Ashraful and others who are following the team rule are playing better and we are on track I believe. We are probably not bowling as well as we can.”
Jamie Siddons, the Bangladesh coach, draws positives from his team’s recent losing streak.”I have confidence in the team. A coach can make a strategy and plan but the players have to execute in the ground which was important.”

Cirkin very close to leaving Spurs

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur youngster Dennis Cirkin has already arrived at Sunderland to complete his north London exit after an agreement was reached over the weekend – with the Lilywhites accepting a six-figure bid.

The Lowdown: Cirkin on the move…

Reliable reports indicate that the promising starlet is indeed on his way out of Tottenham this summer.

Journalist Charlie Eccleshare of the Athletic backed Football Insider’s first claim that a Sunderland move was on the horizon, taking to Twitter last week and saying that the exit is ‘expected to go through’.

Alasdair Gold also believes that the 19-year-old is on his way out, as explained on his YouTube channel, with the journalist stating that Cirkin ‘looks like he’s going to move on permanently’.

The Latest: Cirkin exit imminent…

As per FI, bringing an update, they claim that the defender has arrived on Wearside to complete his move from Spurs to Sunderland.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-gossip/” title=”Tottenham latest gossip!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Indeed, they say Cirkin is now joining the Black Cats after Tottenham accepted a six-figure bid for his services – with talks having progressed and an agreement reached over the weekend.

Personal terms have also been agreed on a four-year deal at the Stadium of Light with a Sunderland source explaining that Cirkin was even there yesterday for a medical and to put the finishing touches on his move – coming after he rejected the offer of a new deal at Spurs.

The Verdict: Real shame…

Spurs may be about to lose an exciting prodigy in the left-back area and one who was garnered real praise in the past.

Former Lilywhites boss Jose Mourinho described Cirkin as a player with ‘a lot of quality’ almost immediately after his arrival at Tottenham to succeed Mauricio Pochettino (The Metro).

As he prepares to seal his move away from north London, supporters could be somewhat dejected at this transfer, but it is arguably understandable given the amount of competition in Cirkin’s position.

Sergio Reguilon, Ryan Sessegnon, Ben Davies and Japhet Tanganga can all play at left-back, leaving Cirkin’s first team chances under new boss Nuno Espirito Santo slightly limited.

– Surpreendeu (a marcação alta do Flamengo).

WICB needs to be streamlined – Stanford

Allen Stanford has said that the structure of West Indies cricket administration needs to be “streamlined” and that there were “too many players handling too few dollars” at present

Cricinfo staff24-Jul-2008Allen Stanford, the Antigua-based billionaire who is bankrolling the Stanford 20/20 for 20, has said that the structure of West Indies cricket administration needs to be “streamlined” and that there were “too many players handling too few dollars” at present.”How can you have the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB), the Leewards and Windwards boards, and the individual island boards running a programme that really ought to be run through one board with a representative from each island to streamline efficiency,” Stanford told the . “That is what makes business sense.””We have too many cooks in this little kitchen. We need to streamline this. None of this is disrespecting people. None of this is saying we are doing anything wrong in terms of any island, but we have too many players handling too few dollars.”The WICB comprises 18 directors, including a president and a vice-president. The six territorial associations have two directors each and the numbers are made up by four non-elected directors.Stanford’s view was supported by former West Indian fast bowler, Wes Hall, who is one of the 14 legends on the Stanford 20/20 board of directors. Hall was the WICB president between 2001 and 2003.”You need a board that is not 18 people,” Hall said. “You want a West Indies Cricket Board and not a West Indies business board with a cricket committee that has no clout. You don’t need 18 people. You need eight. We’ve said so for years, but nobody is listening.”The WICB and chief sponsors Digicel are currently heading to arbitration over the issue raised by the Irish telecommunication company that the Stanford five-year, US$100 million series – which consists of one All-Star match per year against an England team – encroaches on their exclusive sponsorship rights.
