Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, former Premier League midfielder Carlton Palmer does not believe it was Jose Mourinho’s decision to bring Gareth Bale back to Tottenham.

Mourinho was recently sacked as Spurs boss after months of speculation about unrest in the north London club’s dressing room.

And, as reported by the Evening Standard earlier this year, Bale was one player who did not always enjoy the best of relationships with Mourinho.

Ultimately, with everything that has gone on behind the scenes, especially disputes regarding Bale’s fitness, Palmer has questioned whether Mourinho wanted the Welsh forward back at Tottenham in the first place.

Discussing the 58-year-old’s recent dismissal in an exclusive interview with FFC, Palmer said:

“It’s always easy to get rid of the manager than get rid of the players. There seems to be no love lost between Gareth Bale and Jose and it’s interesting. Reading between the lines, I don’t think that was Jose’s decision to bring Gareth Bale in.

“I think the criticism that was labelled at Gareth Bale was fair by Jose Mourinho. He’s come back to the football club; he wasn’t fit. He wasn’t fit to play.”

Like Mourinho, Bale also looks set to leave Tottenham. The 31-year-old Wales international recently stated that it is his intention to return to Real Madrid and see out the remaining year of his contract there.

Eddie Howe has been the main name linked with the Hoops vacancy following Neil Lennon’s resignation back in February.

He’s reportedly finalising his Celtic Park backroom staff ahead of a potential move north, however, a deal is yet to be announced.

Celtic released a statement on Friday regarding off-field developments, admitting they are doing all they can in a bid to land a new first-team boss as fast as possible.

But former England defender Mills feels they could miss out on the 43-year-old due to developments in north London.

The Latest: Spurs’ Parker approach

According to Football Insider, Spurs chief Daniel Levy, who is on the search for a new manager of his own, has made a behind-the-scenes move to assess Fulham boss Scott Parker’s interest in the Tottenham job.

And Mills, when talking to Football Insider about the update, feels it could have an impact on the Hoops and their pursuit of Howe.

“He’s thinking ‘Let’s just get to the end of the season, let’s see what happens with the Tottenham job, let’s see what that opens up.’

“Does Scott Parker leave Fulham? Would Fulham be an attractive proposition for Eddie Howe?

“Who’s going to Crystal Palace? Who’s going to Burnley?

“We haven’t really started the managerial merry-go-round yet. He’ll be waiting to see what happens first.

“Definitely, it could leave Celtic with egg on their face.”

The Verdict: Celtic must remain patient

Howe admitted himself last year that his return to management would have to be in a position that ‘really motivated’ him, and we feel as if the Hoops position does just that.

If it didn’t, talks with Dermot Desmond at the beginning of April would more than likely have broken down, but it seems as if things are moving in the right direction in regards to a move north.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Howe isn’t in the Hoops job right now, as his representative confirmed he wouldn’t make a return until the summer, so hopefully, when that time comes around, a deal will be in place for him to become Celtic’s new manager.

– O Dorival treina muitas circunstâncias. Contra a Ponte Preta, fizemos um triângulo (com Renato e Braz), para me adiantar e deixar o Braz sozinho na zaga. Deu certo – explica, em entrevista ao LANCE!.

No Audax, o jovem de 22 anos começou como meia, ainda na base. Sob o comando de Diniz, jogou em linha de três zagueiros e mais avançado, o que convenceu Dorival a contratá-lo após o Paulistão.

Uma das qualidades exigidas por Dorival para qualquer contratação no Santos, independentemente da posição, é ser versátil, ou seja, fazer mais de uma função no jogo.

Sem ter dado certo no sub-20 do Palmeiras, ele não teve regalias na base e sempre ficou longe de conceitos antigos.

Mais do que versátil, Yuri é considerado moderno e segue evoluindo.

Da onde vem a sua versatilidade e como aprimorou diferentes características?

Na base eu sempre fui meia, mais do que volante. Minha base inteira atuei como meia, sempre chegando na frente. Comecei a vir para trás, começar a saída de bola, jogar de frente, com o Fernando Diniz. E comecei a preferir, me adaptei. Antes jogava de costas para a área. Passei a render mais também.

Quais suas influências?

Eu gosto de ver o Mascherano no Barcelona, é um estilo parecido com o meu. Eu procuro ver muitos jogos, não só do Barcelona, mas o Busquets também parece, no estilo. Acho que me pareço mais com ele até.

Quais foram suas maiores dificuldades para se adaptar a diferentes posições?

Como sempre fui meia, eu pecava na marcação. Não marcava tanto, tive de aprender. Tive de trabalhar bastante nisso. Aprendi e agora é tranquilo jogar recuado.

Como profissional, você trabalhou só com o Fernando Diniz e com o Dorival Júnior, técnicos considerados atualizados. Acredita que eles podem mudar o futebol?

Torço para que eles continuem mudando. Dorival e Diniz trabalham de maneiras parecidas. Acho que com esses “malucos do bem” o futebol tem muito a ganhar.

Tem alguma preferência quanto jogar como volante ou zagueiro?

Isso eu deixei bem claro para o Dorival e para a comissão. Na zaga ou como volante, não tem diferença. Faço as funções e estou à disposição. Nas duas funções eu me sinto bem à vontade, não tenho preferência. Está na mão do Dorival, onde ele quiser me colocar fico tranquilo e confiante.

Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest have been dealt a blow in their hopes of securing a move to bring Serdar Dursun to the City Ground.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by German publication Bild (via Football League World), who claimed that the Darmstadt centre-forward, who is reportedly of interest to both Nottingham Forest and Derby County, has entered into talks with Hamburg ahead of a potential summer switch.

The two Championship clubs had been put on alert regarding the £1.35m-rated striker prior to the January transfer window, when it was claimed that the 29-year-old was keen to seal a move away from Darmstadt this summer upon the expiry of his contract at the Bundesliga 2 outfit.

Hughton must move

So far this season, Dursun has been in exceptional form over his 30 league appearances for Markus Anfang’s side, with the striker bagging 21 goals and registering three assists for Darmstadt, as well as averaging a highly impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.35, ranking him as the club’s second-best performer in the German second tier.

This kind of goalscoring form is something which has been desperately lacking at the City Ground this season, with top scorer Lewis Grabban finding the back of the net just six times over his 27 league appearances, while Lyle Taylor has scored on just four occasions over his 38 Championship outings for 16th-placed Forest.

As such, Hughton is likely to be keen to invest in some fresh attacking talent over the course of the summer transfer window in a bid to mount a promotion push in the Championship next season. The 1.9m-tall (6 foot 3) Dursun would appear to be both an improvement on Forest’s current options, as well as a cost-effective move for the club considering that the 29-year-old looks set to be available on a free transfer.

However, with recent reports suggesting that the centre-forward is entering into talks with Hamburg regarding a move, it would be most advisable for Forest to act quickly in order to try and seal a deal for the Turkish goal machine.

Many West Ham United fans are unhappy after it was revealed that Jesse Lingard could return to Manchester United for good at the end of the season as the Hammers cannot afford to sign him permanently.

The £13.5m-valued maestro, who made the move on loan to the London Stadium in January, has been a revelation under David Moyes. In 13 Premier League games, he has helped himself to nine goals and four assists (Transfermarkt), and his arrival gave the Irons a boost as they attempt to qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

It has been suggested previously that Lingard would set West Ham back £20m if they signed him permanently (Eurosport). However, according to the Daily Mail, the England international could start next season back at Old Trafford as West Ham are unsure whether they will have the funds required to sign him on a permanent basis.
