Tottenham Hotspur take a break from league action as they look to continue their quest towards silverware under Jose Mourinho with an FA Cup fifth-round tie at Everton.

The north London outfit finally ended a run of three straight defeats by beating troubled West Brom 2-0 over the weekend, thanks to the returning Harry Kane and Heung-min Son reigniting their prolific partnership.

But Mourinho is left with plenty to ponder as games are coming thick and fast once more…

On the Chalkboard

One decision facing the Special One is in the attack.

Yes, we’re likely to see Kane and Son both start, but the other places are surely up for grabs.

Against the Baggies, Mourinho handed rare Premier League starts to both Lucas Moura, who played in the no.10 role, and Erik Lamela, who was deployed out on the right.

Earlier this week, we outlined why the Brazilian still has a big part to play at the club, but for the fellow South American, the same cannot be said as he underwhelmed – it was all energy with little product.

Indeed, the 28-year-old recorded the lowest SofaScore rating (6.7) of any of Spurs’ attacking players on the afternoon and that’s ultimately poor considering Albion had the worst defensive record in the top-flight by a considerable margin – their 54 goals conceded is 15 more than any other team.

Before Lamela was hooked in the 74th minute, he managed just one accurate cross from seven attempts (14%), which meant Kane had very little to feed off whilst the winger also failed to win the majority of his duels, losing five of 15 (33%), meaning the West Brom left-back had the better of him consistently.

He was even the second-most wasteful Spurs player on the pitch as he lost possession 17 times – once every four minutes.

If Spurs have serious ambitions of progressing tonight, then Mourinho ought to play Moura, Steven Bergwijn or Gareth Bale over Lamela.

As one of the final survivors from the Andre Villas-Boas era, it’s quite a surprise to see the former Roma star still standing in N17, especially as he’s among the high earners at the club on a reported £85k-per-week, which is more than Matt Doherty, Giovani Lo Celso and Bergwijn.

Teammate Eric Dier revealed earlier in this season that Lamela “is a nightmare” because “offensively he’s so good” and “when you have the ball, he kicks lumps out of you.”

But we’ve not seen that sort of claim come to fruition in a competitive encounter in a very long time.

A series of injuries and no goal in the Premier League since September 2019 tells the full story – he has missed more games (108) than goal contributions (81) since joining Spurs in 2013, and in failing to deliver against the weak and faltering West Brom, he should not be given another start this evening.

Ruthless it may be, but a wise decision.

وقال كلوب في تصريحات نشرتها شبكة “ليفربول إيكو” الإنجليزية: “ليس فقط اللاعبان اللذان ذكرتهما ولكننا لن نبقى معًا إلى الأبد، هذا هو الحال، إذا أراد شخص ما الذهاب إلى مكان آخر، فعلينا إيجاد حل لذلك، إذا أردنا أن يكون لدينا شخص من ناد آخر، علينا إيجاد حل لذلك”.

وأضاف: “هذا وضع طبيعي تمامًا، لا نفكر فيه، ليس علينا التحدث عن بدلاء هؤلاء الأولاد أو أي شيء آخر، الأمر كله يتعلق بما هو منطقي لكلا الجانبين في 6 أو 18 شهرًا أو أي شيء آخر، مثل هذا النوع من الأشياء”.

وواصل: “لكن هذا ليس مهمًا في الوقت الحالي على الإطلاق، الآن من المهم للغاية كيف يمكنك المساهمة في اللحظة التي تلعب فيها، الباقي لا علاقة به حاليًا”.

وأردف: “أنا لا أخطط مع لاعبين بالمشاركة بينما لا يستطيع الآخرون اللعب، يتعلق الأمر بكيفية اللعب في الوقت الحالي وبعد ذلك تكون في التشكيلة الأساسية، إذا كان عقدك سينتهي في غضون شهرين، في غضون أربعة أيام أو خمس سنوات، فإن ذلك لن يحدث أي فرق على الإطلاق”.

اختتم: “إنهم مهمون لأنهم يستطيعون حقًا المساهمة في اللحظة التي يبدأون فيها أو عندما يأتون من الدكة وهذا هو سبب كونهم لاعبين في ليفربول”.

وتحدث ميرسون عن وجهة نظره في عموده بصحيفة “ديلي ستار”، وكتب: “ليفربول بحاجة إلى التعاقد مع مهاجم مثل راؤول خيمينيز (مهاجم ولفرهامبتون) في يناير”.

وتابع: “ليس فقط لتعويض محمد صلاح وساديو ماني في كأس أمم إفريقيا، ولكنهم يحتاجون لمهاجم جديد في المستقبل”.

وأضاف: “ليفربول بحاجة إلى لاعب يمكنه الضغط والمنافسة مع مهاجميه الحاليين ومساعدتهم على الفوز بالألقاب خاصة الدوري الإنجليزي باستمرار خلال السنوات القليلة المقبلة، ليس من الجيد أن تأتي في المركز الثاني خلال السنوات الخمس المقبلة”.

وأتم تصريحاته: “جوتا وفيرمينو لاعبان جيدان للغاية، لكني ما زلت اعتقد أن ليفربول بحاجة إلى مهاجم صريح وإذا جاء خيمينيز سيلعب، ربما لن يكون ذلك كل جولة ولكن سيحصل على دقائق كثيرة للمشاركة على مدار الموسم”.

After tasting back-to-back defeats in the Premier League, Leeds United got back to winning ways with a superb 3-0 win over Southampton on Tuesday night.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side sealed all three points thanks to goals from Patrick Bamford, Raphinha and Stuart Dallas, and it was arguably the latter who stole the show for the Argentine.

While Raphinha may take most of the headlines for his wonderful free-kick, Dallas’ energetic contributions set the tone for the contest, and once again reaffirmed why Bielsa seems to be such a massive fan of his – he’s played the full 90 minutes in every single Premier League this season, bar one, and even in that he only came off with ten minutes to go.

As per Sofascore, Dallas completed both of his attempted dribbles – the best success rate of any Leeds player versus the Saints – while he was one of only two players to provide at least one key pass and create one official big chance.

His fine attacking work was eventually rewarded when he scored (toe-poked) with just less than 15 minutes to go, arriving on the scene to take a touch from a Helder Costa cross and then firing into the bottom corner.

But it wasn’t just offensively that the 29-year-old really caused problems for Southampton. Defensively, he was a beast too. He made a game-high five tackles (more than double his season average of 2.3 in the top-flight), while he also won seven of his nine total duels (again, far more than his season average of 4.7).

In their post-match player ratings, Leeds Live gave Dallas the joint-highest of eight, writing: “Yet another goal to add to his tally. Was one of the best outlets United had in the first half with his link-ups with Raphinha down the left. So dependable in every position and always an option arriving on the edge of the box from deep.”

And, after the game, The Athletic’s Phil Hay delivered his verdict on Leeds’ Mr Reliable, saying: “Had Dallas down as player of the year last season (granted, Hernandez ambushed proceedings at the death). I’d say Dallas has been even better this season. It’s like constant evolution for so many in this squad.”

Though Leeds’ sparkling Brazilian, Raphinha, may be the name on everybody’s lips after another goal-scoring display, it was Dallas who really proved himself to be Bielsa’s key man on the night.

Mas o Planalto já tem um favorito para assumir o posto que está na iminência de ficar vago: Edinho Silva, até o momento da Secretaria de Comunicação do governo.

Hilton assumiu o Ministério em dezembro de 2014, substituindo Aldo Rebelo. Deputado federal por Minas Gerais, ele chegou a ser questionado por não ter no currículo o envolvimento com o esporte, mas recebeu a missão de conduzir os trabalhos visando aos Jogos Olímpicos.

A saída do PRB da base do governo se deu depois de um artigo do presidente do partido, Marcos Pereira, no qual ele pedia o impeachment da presidente Dilma. Hilton chegou a divulgar uma nota informando que não concordava com o conteúdo do texto, publicado na Folha de S. Paulo. Mas a ordem agora é entregar os cargos no governo.
