Jacob Murphy’s loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday has given him the opportunity to make a big impression on the coaching staff at Newcastle, but so far it is doubtful that he has played his way back into their plans.

The winger has enjoyed a bit of a rough patch of late, with his loan spell at West Brom last season not setting the world alight either as he managed a return of just two goals and one assist in 15 appearances.

He joined the Owls when they were in good form and sitting top of the Championship, but of the 11 league matches he has featured in they have just four wins.

A closer look suggests he has failed to impress Garry Monk. Murphy has started just five out of a possible 13 league games, which is little surprise given he has contributed just two league goals – one of which came back in August against relegation-threatened Barnsley.

Whilst he is still impressive when running with the ball, with 1.9 successful dribbles per game, his decision-making continues to let him down and he becomes ineffective in the final third as a result.

His rate of 0.6 key passes per game is a good indicator of that, with the current Magpies wingers failing to deliver in the same area, this should really be where Murphy’s standing out in comparison. Unfortunately that’s not been the case this season.

A bigger concern is that when he returns to the north-east he will have only 12 months remaining on his contract, meaning Newcastle will have to decide whether to sell or hand him a new contract before they run the risk of losing him on a free.

With his form seemingly in decline though, it is looking like Rafa Benitez made a mistake in bringing him to Tyneside

At 24 years of age he still has the potential to develop into a more effective winger, but with Newcastle spending big on the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin in recent windows, it seems that they are preparing for life without him.

Based on current form, that approach is more than justified.

وتابع: “هذا الأمر كنت أفتقده خلاله مسيرتي، وهذا ما جعلني أتخذ قرار الرحيل عن أكثر من نادٍ من أجل التغيير ومواصلة البحث عن حلم الفوز بالبطولات”.

وأضاف: “سعيد لأننا أصبحنا الأبطال، لكني أركز بالفعل على بطولة أمم أوروبا مع منتخب بلجيكا لأنها مهمة بالنسبة لي”.

وواصل تصريحاته: “آمل حقًا أن يتمكن لاعبو بلجيكا الآخرين مثل كورتوا، هازارد، فيتسل ودي بروين من الفوز بالألقاب أيضًا لأن ذلك سيكون مفيدًا للمنتخب قبل يورو 2020”.

Gabriel Martinelli has been named as Arsenal’s player of the month for October, and although the club’s results have been extremely inconsistent as of late, these fans have been stating their appreciation for the forward’s goalscoring contribution so far in 2019/20.

Martinelli has scored seven goals since arriving from Ituano in the summer transfer window, whilst also particularly impressing in the Europa League, scoring three goals in three European appearances.

Yet despite this, the 18-year-old is yet to start a Premier League game in the current campaign. 

Although the last month has been a difficult period for Arsenal, with Unai Emery’s side now sitting in fifth, six points off Champions League qualification, the form of their Brazilian youngster is unquestionably a positive element of an underwhelming campaign so far.

That process will be now made all that easier as Barry Bannan will be around at Hillsborough, rather than lining up for Scotland against Cyprus and Kazakhstan in their Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

The 29-year-old was snubbed by national team manager Steve Clarke again, but Bannan doesn’t seem too fazed by it.

He said: “I shouldn’t be saying this, but I am probably quite happy not to be in, as I have a lot of niggles at the moment. I have never ruled it out and if I get picked, I get picked. If I don’t, I am happy playing for my club every week.”

Bannan recently was a shock omission from that Blackburn defeat, and his missing presence as vice-captain was clearly felt.

As such an influential member of the squad – he ranks joint-top for assists and top for key passes per game, via WhoScored – his presence on the training pitch over the next week will be a substantial help to Wednesday getting over their late blips in matches.

It also gives him a chance to fully recover from those little injuries he mentions, and a fully-fit Bannan is the best thing for Monk right now.

He has featured in 14 of their 16 matches in the second-tier this season.

The 27-time capped international hasn’t lined up in the blue kit of Scotland for two years now, so it remains to be seen if he will ever earn such a chance ever again.

Everton have struggled for goals in recent times and Marco Silva will be desperate for one of his attackers to turn up against Norwich City on Saturday.

The game is set to be a huge clash between two sides who have been dragged into an early relegation scrap, and with a win potentially rocketing Everton up the league, the forward men will be essential at Goodison Park.

Players such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have had topsy-turvy seasons so far, with just six league goals between them.

It is for this reason that Everton fans should keep their eyes peeled for Cenk Tosun this weekend. The Turkey international was slowly been making his way back into the side prior to the international break, with a goal against Tottenham Hotspur and his first start against Southampton.

Now, the 28-year-old could be pushing for another start and the Goodison Park faithful should be excited to see what he can bring on Saturday to a dismal Norwich defence.

The Canaries have let in an almighty 28 goals in the Premier League thus far, which is the second-most in the division.

Plus, with Tosun’s history in goal-getting prior to his move to Merseyside, he will surely be chomping at the bit to step out this weekend. For Besiktas, the striker scored 64 goals as he made a name for himself as one of the stars back in his homeland.

This impressive goal tally also includes the 20 league goals he bagged in the 2016/17 season, which ended up helping Besiktas to the league title. On Saturday, Everton fans should watch their recently-seen man up top, as he has shown signs of rekindling the type of form that convinced the club to sign him in the first place.

Tosun is still only 28 and if his time in Turkey is anything to go by, he still has years of goals to offer.

Now, up against one of the Premier League’s weakest defences, he has the perfect chance to justify the £27m price tag.

According to a recent report from the Express, Borussia Dortmund are eyeing a transfer for Tottenham Hotspur’s Troy Parrott.

What’s the word, then?

The 17-year-old has definitely managed to attract the interest of some big European clubs as of late.

The Express claim that Borussia Dortmund plan to rival none other than Bayern Munich for the signature of Parrott, who is also wanted by the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus.

The youngster has previously been likened to Harry Kane, his senior teammate, but could potentially represent another big project for Borussia Dortmund to get their hands on.

After all, if their previous experience with Jadon Sancho and Ousmane Dembele are anything to go by, Parrott certainly looks like a prototype youngster for Dortmund.

Another wonderkid project

If we take a quick look at Borussia Dortmund’s past sales, we can see that there is a pattern of selling emerging talent.

Of course, Dembele is by far their most lucrative exit as after successfully grooming the Frenchman into a superstar attracting the Catalans, they shipped him off for a huge fee.

A similar situation is now brewing with Sancho, who’s been linked with an exit and is currently rated at £120m, with mostly the same formula behind it: scoop them while they’re young and still developing, turn them into stars and sell them big.

Parrott, if successfully snatched away from Spurs, would be an ideal new project for the Bundesliga giants.

From Tottenham Hotspur’s point of view, however, it could represent a major loss for their squad.

After all, the 17-year-old is very much an up and coming star and recently played his first senior game in the Carabao Cup.

Across all competitions in 2019/20, however, he has already netted seven times and assisted once in a total of five games so the talent is clearly there for everyone to see.

Express also state that he was on the verge of a Premier League call up under Mauricio Pochettino and with Jose Mourinho’s recent verdict on utilising the youth, Parrott could still have a future at Spurs:

“There is not one manager in the world who does not like to play young players and help young players to evolve, there is not one.”

For that reason, Borussia Dortmund’s huge gain would very much represent a big loss for Spurs.

In other news, Spurs are targeting a Serie A prodigy, and his potential arrival could be a huge boost for a key figure at the club.

وواصل: “ديشامب يعرف كيف يختار قوائمه، إنه ذكي جدًا في ذلك، لم يتصل بي قبل ضم بنزيما، وأنا لم أتوقع أي شيء منه”.

Leeds United beat Reading 1-0 on Tuesday evening, and while it wasn’t the most convincing performance of the Whites’ season so far, one man put in one of his best performances of the campaign up until this point.

Indeed, Liam Cooper won his first WhoScored Man of the Match award of the campaign, and the stats tell you exactly why he was United’s best player on Tuesday.

Leeds were tested at the Madejski Stadium, and in previous weeks the Whites may not have kept a clean sheet and won this game, but Cooper’s return from injury allowed the Yorkshire outfit to put on such a strong defensive performance.

The Scotland international has struggled with injuries in recent weeks, but the defender seemingly hasn’t missed a trick during his time on the sidelines.

Bielsa’s one and only change on Tuesday was to bring in his captain in place of Gaetano Berardi, and it quite clearly paid off.

He won more aerial duels than any other United player, while also bossing the tackling, interception and clearance statistics.

All in all, it was a ridiculously good performance from the centre-back as he didn’t just perform brilliantly in one aspect of defending, but he was superb in almost every way you could want a defender to be.

The centre-back is hugely missed by the team when he’s out of the squad, and this performance showed that Cooper has to be one of the first names on the teamsheet whenever he’s available.

Meanwhile, one Sky pundit has delivered a verdict that may mean news for many Leeds fans.
