West Ham United could not have asked for a harder start to the 2019/20 season.

They face champions Manchester City at the London Stadium in a game that, really, is unlikely to define too much of their season.

They haven’t beaten City since 2015 and have conceded eight goals in the last two games at the London Stadium.

This could be seen as something of a free hit, then, but the Irons have had their expectations raised by some exceptional summer business.

They broke their transfer record to secure Sebastian Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt and also signed Pablo Fornals from Villarreal for £24m. Deals for Goncalo Cardoso and Albian Ajeti were pushed through prior to the transfer deadline.

It is unlikely that either of the latter two will play, such has been their lack of pre-season training, but both Haller and Fornals could make their debuts.

Lukasz Fabianski has recovered from an injury sustained in pre-season, though Mark Noble is out with a dead leg, per sources.

Fabianski playing in goal will be something of a boost, while Ryan Fredericks and Arthur Masuaku are likely to feature at full-back, while Issa Diop will surely partner Fabian Balbuena.

Declan Rice is perhaps the first name on the teamsheet, such was his impressive 2018/19 campaign, while Jack Wilshere should partner him, after his return to fitness.

Fornals will look to adjust to Premier League football on the right flank, with Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini automatic starters when they are healthy. Andriy Yarmolenko could offer a significant threat off the bench.

Starting Haller up front is something of a risk but the Irons will hope it pays off.

There is also the opportunity to potentially leave him on the bench and start Javier Hernandez but one imagines that the former Frankfurt forward is the more likely starter.

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic rung the changes for their Carabao Cup tie against Milwall on Tuesday night as they were defeated 2-1 at the Hawthorns just days after meeting in the Championship.

Regular shot-stopper Sam Johnstone was rested in favour of Jonathan Bond getting some game time, and his performance has caused many of the Baggies faithful to wish he would be given a chance in the league.

The 28-year-old joined the West Midlands club on a free transfer from Reading following the expiry of his contract and made just three FA Cup appearances last season.

He has some experience in the Championship across spells at Watford and Reading having played 36 appearances between the two, keeping nine clean sheets.

A number of West Brom supporters took to Twitter to throw their support behind the 6 foot 5 goalkeeper with one fan saying ‘what a keeper, this is why I want him starting Championship games.’

Others added that they would play Bond over first choice Johnstone every single time as he’s a ‘liability’ whilst a further member of the Hawthorns crowd said he at least deserves a shot.

One fan was rather cynical suggesting that despite a good performance, he reckons the former England under-21 keeper will still be on the bench on Saturday.

Tottenham welcome Newcastle to their new stadium for the first time this weekend, and there could be an absolute slaughter on the cards.

The Magpies conceded three at Carrow Road on Saturday, and they were lucky not to concede even more, allowing Norwich to take a whopping 15 shots, eight of which were on target.

Steve Bruce’s side travel to north London to face a Spurs team filled with confidence after their draw at the home of the champions, and it is surely the perfect time for Mauricio Pochettino to hand one of his summer signings a first start.

The back four will surely stay the same after being so resilient against Man City, while the midfield duo of Harry Winks and Tanguy Ndombele pretty much picks itself.

In attack is where things get interesting though, with plenty of options to choose from now that Son Heung-min is back from suspension.

We suspect the wing wizard to come straight back into the XI, while Erik Lamela simply must keep his place after he played a part in both goals at the Etihad.

The two offer excellent width, speed and work rate on the flanks, which should afford new signing Giovani Lo Celso plenty of space to work his magic behind Harry Kane.

The Argentine registered 16 goals and six assists in all competitions last season, and while Christian Eriksen may be the more obvious pick, the new man will never get an easier opportunity to open his Tottenham account than against a disorganised and fractured Newcastle side.

Oh, and Kane will start, but you probably didn’t need us to tell you that.

كان الاتحاد الدولي أصدر بيانه شرح فيه الانتهاكات التي وصفها بالجسيمة لرئيس الاتحاد المصري هشام  نصر خلال البطولة وقرر نصا في ختام البيان أنه نظرا للانتهاكات الجسيمة للإجراءات الطبية والاحترازية كورونا من قبل رئيس اللجنة المنظمة الذي كان من المفترض أن يكون مثالا وقدوة يحتذى بها في تطبيق الإجراءات الاحترازية قرر مجلس إدارة الاتحاد الدولي إيقاف هشام نصر لمدة عام من جميع أنشطة كرة اليد من تاريخه وفقا للمادة ٢٧، ٣، ١٤ من لوائح الإتحاد ولحين موعد انعقاد الجمعية العمومية المقبلة للاتحاد الدولي مع منح هشام نصر الحق في تقديم دفاعاته للمجلس والاستئناف علي قرار العقوبة لمجلس الإدارة وفقا للمادة ٢،٢،٩ من اللائحة القانونية للاتحاد الدولي والبت فيها في اجتماع الجمعية العمومية المقبل.

يذكر، أن اجتماع الجمعية العمومية المقبل لاتحاد كرة اليد الدولي سينعقد نهاية نوفمبر المقبل بمدينة أنطاكية التركية وسيتحدد خلالها إما الاكتفاء بمدة العقوبة أو زيادتها أو إيقافها.

[ad_pod ]Lots of Southampton fans have taken to Twitter in excitement after they were drawn against rivals Portsmouth in the next round of the Carabao Cup, following the Saints’ 1-0 win over Fulham.The two South Coast sides haven’t faced each other since 2012 when they were both playing in the Championship, but the Carabao Cup has served up the chance for this fierce rivalry to have a new chapter written.

Their distaste for each other dates back to the early 1900s in matters not concerning football, but has since become embroiled into both side’s footballing livelihood.

The Saints progressed through to the next round following a 1-0 win over Fulham, in which 19-year-old striker Michael Obafemi netted the game’s only goal.

Kenny Jackett’s side earned their passage through to the next round with a 2-0 win over QPR, in which they scored twice in four second-half minutes late on to dispatch of the Londoners.

The Sun are reporting that Sheffield Wednesday could chase Tony Pulis as their new manager if results do not improve under Lee Bullen.

The Owls are 11th in the table but have lost three of their last four matches in the Championship which has meant the caretaker boss has come under fire, even despite being privately backed if reports are to be believed.

Earlier in the summer when Steve Bruce left for Newcastle United, the hierarchy at Hillsborough pursued Pulis as his replacement, but a deal couldn’t be reached.

It is believed that the 61-year-old wasn’t interested in managing the club, but after further time out of the game, he could be swayed.

We’re going to take a look at how Wednesday could line up under Pulis if he arrived in Yorkshire any time soon:

The Welshman’s preferred formation is a 4-2-3-1 but with a defensive twist.

At Middlesborough last season, Pulis mainly used this formation, but towards the back end of the campaign, it reverted to a regular three at the back formation, which isn’t out of the realms of possibility here – but for now, we’ll go with what has historically been preferred.

Keiren Westwood would only keep his place despite averaging one of the worst ratings in the squad at 6.07, as the Owls’ backups aren’t really suitable for Championship football.

In front of him, the defence is likely to remain much the same with that looking like a much stronger area of the pitch for Wednesday currently – both Julian Borner and Tom Lees have ratings over 7.0 at centre-back whilst there isn’t much competition for places on either side.

The defensive twist lies with the two central midfielders, who would sit deeper, which may suit Sam Hutchinson having also played centre-back.

Kadeem Harris and Jacob Murphy add pace out wide and have been Wednesday’s best options on the flanks whilst Fernando Forestieri could sit behind Steven Fletcher in attack to add some flair in the number ten role – something they are currently lacking.

The Italian is the second-most fouled player on the team, so he should be able to garner some set-pieces, which would only suit Pulis’ notoriously negative brand of football.

The Yorkshire club have the players to deploy a 3-5-2 if need be too.

Last week, Goal.com claimed that Liverpool were monitoring Villarreal attacker Samuel Chukwueze ahead of a potential move for the 20-year-old.

And amid a host of speculation since, a number of Liverpool supporters have been discussing a swoop for the forward.

Chukwueze, who is a nine-time Nigeria international, has been with Villarreal since 2017 – making the step into the first team in 2018.

The winger came to the forefront with eight goals in all competitions for the Yellow Submarine during the 2018-19 campaign.

Chukwueze has also netted once in three La Liga appearances for his Spanish club this term – registering against Granada on the opening weekend of the new season.
