Whilst Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang comfortably lead the attacking line for Arsenal, it’s easy to forget that the Gunners have another striker amongst their ranks.

Eddie Nketiah is a player that introduced himself to the world in Arsene Wenger’s final season as Arsenal boss as the teenager scored a brace in the League Cup to bring the Gunners from behind to beat Norwich, but things have slowed down since that October night.

The striker has only goal against Burnley on the final day of the previous campaign, and with Lacazette and Aubameyang being two of Arsenal’s most important players given how many goals the duo score, Nketiah could be set for another season on the bench.

Unless, of course, he is sent out on loan for the 2019/20 season, and according to football.london, this is something Arsenal are thinking about as the likes of Bristol City, Charlton and Augsburg are all said to be interested in Nketiah, and we believe that the north London club sending the 19-year-old out for the year is exactly what the striker needs.

Nketiah has been quite incredible in Arsenal’s U-23 side over the past three seasons, won the Premier League 2 in 2018, and with such a prolific record, the England U-19 striker is more than ready for the step-up into professional football.

Of course, Unai Emery might have his reservations of sending out the attacker on loan given the fact he is Arsenal’s third-choice striker and that something could happen to Lacazette or Aubameyang next season, but putting caution over development is something the club can’t afford to do with a talent like Nketiah, who at this stage of his career needs to be playing first-team football.

Arsenal were in this position last season when Nketiah, as reported by the Sun, was set to go out on loan to Augsburg in the January transfer window, but due to deals for Ivan Perisic and Yannick Carrasco failing to materialise, the teenager remained at the club and missed out on potentially playing four months of first-team football, and this summer the Gunners can’t be making the same mistake twice.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Jay-Roy Grot could be set to go out on loan again as Hearts and Vitesse are interested in his services.

The 6 ft 4 attacker spent last season out on loan in the Eredivisie, but this time United should consider keeping him in the UK.

Surprising

It’s somewhat surprising seeing Grot touted with a move away from Elland Road again this summer after reports earlier in the month stated that he would be given a chance to prove himself in Yorkshire.

The 21-year-old had a difficult debut campaign at the club scoring just once in 23 games, but he seems to have rediscovered his form back in the Netherlands as he scored six goals and supplied three assists in 33 matches. He finished the season in a flurry netting three goals in his last five games, and it seemed that he had a lifeline at Elland Road.

Hearts rather than Vitesse

Even though Grot may be more comfortable heading back for another season in the Eredivisie, Leeds must send him to Hearts if he is to have a future at the club.

The SPFL is much more similar to the physical style of English football than the Dutch league and if the youngster is to ever have a career at Elland Road he must learn to adjust to that.

The recent reports from Football Insider indicate that he may still have a part to play for the Yorkshire outfit at some point, and if he gets to grips with the physicality in Scotland he will enhance his chances of becoming a first-team player for the Whites.

وأردف: “ولكن يتمحور أسلوب لعبنا على امتلاك الكرة وتناقلها بشكل مستمر قدر الإمكان في نصف ملعب الخصم”.

واعترف جوارديولا إنه يلجأ أحيانًا إلى الدفع بلاعبين مثل دي بروين ناحية الأمام، حال وجود أكثر من مهاجم مصاب، حيث قال: “إنها أحد الأساليب التي نتبعها، هناك مباريات نحتاج فيها إلى مهاجم، ولكن في تلك الفترة هناك اثنان منهما كانا مصابين، أحدهما مصاب منذ فترة طويلة وهو أجويرو، أما المهاجمين الآخرين مصابان بفيروس كورونا”.

واستكمل: “لذلك نلعب أحيانًأ بهذه الطريقة وأحيانًا أخرى نضطر بسبب الحاجة الملحة وهي خطة بديلة يمكن الاعتماد عليها، نظرًا للكفاءات التي نملكها في مختلف المراكز، بالتالي فهي مناسبة”.

وعما إذا كان الفوز بالدوري الإنجليزي أصعب من دوري أبطال أوروبا، أجاب جوارديولا: “لكي أكون صادقًا أنا أركز على مباراتنا المقبلة، أنا أحب الفوز بجميع الألقاب والجوائز، نحن جميعًا نعمل على ذلك”.

وواصل: “ولكن مع هذه الظروف وهذا القدر الكبير من المباريات وضيق وقت الراحة، فإن أفضل طريقة لفعل لذلك هو التفكير والتركيز على المباراة التالية، ولكن بالطبع نحن نريد الفوز بأكبر عدد من المباريات والألقاب كذلك”.

وعندما سُئل عما إذا كان مانشستر سيتي ينوي التعاقد مع مهاجم جديد في موسم الانتقالات الشتوي الحالي، أجاب بشكل قاطع: “كلا، لن نقوم بأي صفقة في فترة الانتقالات الشتوية”.

وأوضح: “لم نتحدث عن هذا الموضوع، ولكنني أؤكد لك بأننا سننهي الموسم باللاعبين الذين نملكهم حاليًا”.

ويخوض مانشستر سيتي مباراة نهائي كأس رابطة الأندية الإنجليزية أمام توتنهام، وعن ذلك قال جوارديولا: “توتنهام خصم صعب ويملك مجموعة من اللاعبين المميزين، لكننا لن نواجههم في الأسابيع المقبلة أو الشهر القادم بل ستكون المباراة في نهاية الموسم (أبريل)، لذا ما زال لدينا الوقت الكافي للتفكير بتلك المواجهة”.

Some players you see fire on loan and wonder just why they were sent out when their parent club could really do with what they have to offer. With Leeds United and Mallik Wilks, that was what a lot of fans might have been thinking last season considering their struggles in front of goal.

The youngster only dropped down one division to turn out for Doncaster Rovers, and he gave it a good go in England’s third tier. At the age of just 20-years-old, the young Englishman fired in 14 goals and eight assists and now he could be set to try and do similar for the Elland Road faithful next season.

After chipping in a combined 22 goals and assists in his 46 games for Doncaster the youngster has surely proven to Marcelo Bielsa that he can be trusted, and the fact he failed to miss a single game shows the level of reliability that the versatile youngster has.

Considering how badly injuries impacted Bielsa’s first season in Yorkshire it would be a smart option for the Argentine to bring in and rely upon players who have got it about them to play twice a week, of which Wilks is certainly one of them.

Last season we all saw Jack Harrison run up and down the flank for Leeds to reasonably little effect (recording just four goals and three assists as well as being labelled as inconsistent by Noel Whelan), and it could prove to be an effective move to not only go with one of their own in Wilks instead of resigning Harrison, but to go with the man who’s produced the better numbers over the last 12 months.

It also usually goes a very long way to the Leeds supporters when they have one of their to get behind. Jamie Shackleton has felt the love this season from the fans, and with the likes of Bailey-Peacock-Farrell and Jack Clarke also starring, it would make perfect sense for Bielsa to give another young gun a go.

While Tottenham have yet to finalise a deal for Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombélé, the London Evening Standard claim that a fee has been agreed and the Lilywhites hope a deal will be completed by the end of the week.

The technically outstanding midfielder impressed for Lyon last season, registering eight goal contributions (one goal, seven assists) in Ligue 1, and he also rated highly when performing in the Champions League for the French side having attained an average rating of 7.4 per Whoscored.

His performances at club level have translated into opportunities on the international stage, and to date, the 22-year-old has amassed six caps for France. Seemingly, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are poised to sign an enterprising midfielder endowed with great promise, but what have the experts had to say about him?

Bruno Génésio, former Lyon player and manager

“He is strong physically and above all technically. With the first touch he manages to pass even three players, and when he starts, he is difficult to stop.

“He’s precise with his passing, he has a nice dribble. I do not like comparisons, but in fact Ndombélé can be a new Pogba.”

Evidenced by his goal contributions and by the comments of his former manager, as reported by Tuttosport (via Goal), one of the 22-year-old’s primary strengths is his passing ability – a quality very much aligned with the expansive style of play that Pochettino has established at Spurs.

Impressively, the Frenchman averaged 1.4 key passes in the league last season, and he flaunted an impressive pass success rate of 89.1%. He was clearly involved in the playmaking endeavours of his side, averaging almost 58 passes (57.7) a game.

“He’s one of the best around for his age. In terms of playing style, Ndombélé is about as close as you’re going to get to Moussa Dembele.”

Langdon was full of praise for the midfielder while speaking to talkSPORT. While considering that Spurs have yet to replace Dembele, who departed for China in January, such comparisons are likely to delight the Tottenham faithful.

Capable of operating as a central midfielder or in a slightly deeper role as a defensive midfielder, such versatility and tactical flexibility will be of tremendous benefit to Tottenham’s midfield.

In addition to his impressive passing and attacking statistics, he has proven to be defensively competent, a prerequisite of any good box-to-box midfielder.

Last season, he averaged almost two tackles (1.9) per league game, while also achieving just shy of one interception (0.9) per game.

Julien Laurens, French football expert

“There is some Yaya Touré in him. The way he drives the ball forward, his technical ability, his power. At 1m81, he is not the tallest, but he is so strong and it’s so hard to get the ball off him. He is perfectly suited for the Premier League and England is surely his most likely destination once he leaves Lyon.”

As French football expert Julien Laurens alluded to in an article for Unibet, Ndombélé’s skill set is well-suited to the physical demands of the Premier League. He even compared the Frenchman to Yaya Toure, a modern Premier League great, and Tottenham supporters will be delighted if their new signing is able to emulate the success that the Ivorian midfielder enjoyed during his time in England’s top-flight.

Verdict

Given the wide-ranging admiration for the midfielder and the acknowledgement of his technical and physical qualities, one senses that Tottenham are on the brink of landing a tremendous talent – one that will help elevate the quality of their squad.

Wolves are on the hunt for a defender this summer according to Wolves Bite.

It isn’t necessarily an area you’d assume they need to improve in given they conceded fewer goals than Arsenal and Manchester United last season, but as they gear up for a second successive campaign in the Premier League, they could need all the bodies they can get.

On the chalkboard

One of Wolves’ stalwarts over the last couple of years has been Conor Coady. The club captain didn’t possess the greatest stats last season, but he was still a rock in the middle of Nuno’s back three.

He epitomises what the club has become, but Ezri Konsa, who has been the subject of interest from the Midlands outfit per The Times, is statistically superior in one specific area.

Both players are particularly good with the ball at their feet, boasting the ability to play out from defence with confidence and ease.

Coady completed 84.3% of his passes over the course of 2018/19, establishing himself as one of the key cogs in the Wolves system.

However, Konsa completed 87.7% of his passes in the Championship in comparison to the Wolves centre-half.

It’s a higher number and could leave Nuno pondering who would be a better option if the 21-year-old Brentford man did indeed join.

He is a cultured centre half and for the same reasons Coady gets into the Wolves team, Konsa would be ideal for their Portuguese manager and the system he deploys.

Whether or not he could fit two ball-playing centre-backs alongside Willy Boly remains to be seen, but there is a certain logic to suggest it could work well considering he’s a more physical defender.

There was one particular aspect that Coady was stronger in, however, playing  6.4 long balls per game. Konsa, on the other hand, only played 2.5, which perhaps demonstrates he likes to keep things on the floor.

That being said, the latter did average more passes per game, 50.3, than the Wolves captain who managed 44.4, albeit in a lesser league.

In terms of overall pass success though, Konsa reigned supreme for the Bees, completing 95.1% of his passes and above in four games. He completed 90-95% in a further nine outings.

The consistency from the England U21 international was quite brilliant and in a day of modern defenders who like to play the ball on the ground, he would be a clever addition for the way Wolves play.

According to The Mirror, Aston Villa have launched a bid to sign Tom Heaton from Burnley after the stopper previously rejected a contract offer from the Clarets.

The Villans have made signing a goalkeeper a top priority this summer having targeted a number throughout he window.

Neil Etheridge, Jack Butland and Alex McCarthy have all been linked but it appears as though Heaton is the one they’re now focusing on.

And sharing their views on Twitter, Villa fans appeared delighted that he could be joining the club.

One supporter labelled him the perfect number one goalkeeper for a side returning to the top-flight, as another said he’d give the Villans competition and quality.

A further supporter remarked how he saw the 33-year-old keep Burnley in a game against Brighton, suggesting that if he signs for Villa then the club were in for a treat. One individual even said it would be a step-up from Jed Steer.

Heaton has become somewhat of a stalwart for Burnley, remaining a reliable presence between the sticks, keeping 25 clean sheets in 96 Premier League games.

The goalkeeper has won three England caps too.
