HYS: Should Jesse Lingard start vs Arsenal?

Jesse Lingard may not be the greatest technical talent Manchester United have ever produced, or even the greatest technical talent currently at Old Trafford, but there’s a reason every manager since Sir Alex Ferguson has found room for the attacking midfielder in their first-team squad.

Industrious, versatile, well-liked by his team-mates and developing a knack for scoring big goals, the England international certainly has his uses – as he showed against Watford on Tuesday night.

The Red Devils found themselves facing a Canaries comeback after going three goals up, but it was Lingard who ended any chance of missing out on the victory with a mazy run from his own half that ended in him sliding the ball beyond Heurelho Gomes.

After dropping Henrikh Mkhitaryan and publicly venting his frustrations with Juan Mata’s contributions against Brighton, that’s made Lingard – who Transfermarkt value at £10.8million – a pretty strong candidate to start against Arsenal at the weekend.

So, would you start the England international at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday? Let us know by voting below…

Liverpool fans make demands for West Bromwich Albion game

Liverpool were flying high heading into Sunday’s Merseyside derby against Everton having scored 15 goals in their previous three matches. However, the game did not go to plan as Jurgen Klopp’s team ended up being restricted to a 1-1 draw by the Toffees. On Wednesday, the Reds will attempt to get back to winning ways with a clash against West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.Liverpool have won their last two meetings with the Baggies, but by slender scores of 1-0 and 2-1.Ahead of the contest, fans have been advising Klopp on who to select in the first XI.Plenty have called for Dejan Lovren to be dropped following his blunder against Everton, which resulted in a penalty for the Toffees. The defender made the mistake of pushing Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box and Wayne Rooney converted from the spot to win the Toffees an unlikely point.Klopp came under fire for not starting Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino in the contest, and fans are hoping that the manager does not make the same mistake.

Tottenham fans pay tribute to former striker Ferdinand

Tottenham Hotspur have had some cracking centre-forwards over the years.

Les Ferdinand was not exactly the most consistent of Spurs strikers in terms of goals, but he did net 33 times in the league for the London club between 1997 and 2003.

The 17-time England international actually moved from Tottenham to their bitter rivals West Ham United, and also had spells with Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Watford before hanging up his boots in the summer of 2006.

Ferdinand worked as a coach at Tottenham between November 2008 and June 2014, but is now the Director of Football at one of his other former clubs Queens Park Rangers.

Ferdinand turned 51 on Friday, and as expected, Tottenham’s Twitter account were on hand to pay tribute to the club’s former striker.

There appears to be a trend of football club’s Twitter accounts honouring a selection their former players at the moment, especially on their birthdays.

Ferdinand was a popular player with the Spurs fans during his time at White Hart Lane, and many were on hand to offer their best wishes on December 8.

Harry Kane will be unstoppable if Tottenham can land 19-goal wing-wizard who starred at WC

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern have been delighted by the performances of Harry Kane on the international stage as the 24-year-old continues to go from strength to strength.

The likes of Harry Maguire, Kieran Trippier and Jordan Pickford have received plenty of praise from across the British media so far this summer for their performances throughout the World Cup, and to an extent they have overshadowed Kane somewhat. However, the lack of specific focus on Kane does not suggest that his performances are below what we have come to expect – in fact, it’s quite the opposite.

Aside from a cagey opening fixture in which rhythm is notoriously difficult to come by within international tournaments, Kane has been consistently excellent at holding the ball up, single-handedly creating attacks, winning free-kicks in crucial areas and, of course, doing what he does best: finding the back of the net.

The trajectory Kane is on is simply remarkable for a player who was hardly tipped to enjoy huge success as a youngster, and it’s fair to say he’s verging on unstoppable at the top level right now.

But like any top player, Kane will believe that he can still improve his goalscoring return and overall play, and the arrival of quality attacking players at Tottenham would certainly go a long way to helping him achieve his personal aims.

With that in mind, Mauricio Pochettino should target one of the star’s of the World Cup this summer in order to bolster his attacking options, namely Hirving Lozano.

The 22-year-old winger launched himself into the Mexican stratosphere by scoring the winning goal against Germany in their opening fixture of the World Cup, but his impact was hardly surprising considering the level of success he enjoyed in the Dutch Eredivisie last season.

Lozano bagged an incredible 19 goals and 11 assists from just 34 appearances in all-competitions for the club on his debut season in European football.

His instant impact arrived due to his ability to frighten defenders with his electric pace and determination to consistently go past his opposite number before finding the end-product to match his compelling build up play.

The prospect of seeing Lozano in tandem with Kane on the breakaway is a mouthwatering one for supporters to contemplate, although it would certainly come at a steep price following his World Cup showing.

The space he would create for Kane by dragging defenders out of position would certainly aid Tottenham’s number 9 in his bid to break all records before him with the Lilywhites and, based on his meteoric rise thus fas, Lozano would be well worth forking out for this summer.

Revealed: Majority of Newcastle United fans opposed to Jansson as Lascelles replacement

It is hugely unlikely that Newcastle United will allow Jamaal Lascelles to be snapped up by another club, and if they do, the Magpies will not concede without a fight.

The defender has become a leader at the back and has fully embraced the captaincy role handed to him by manager Rafael Benitez.

Last week, Sky Sports News reported that West Ham United had tabled a £20m bid, rising to £25m in add-ons for Lascelles.

According to the broadcaster, Newcastle rejected the deal, and since then a number of Premier League clubs have been linked to the defender.

Good news came for the Magpies on Monday, though, as The Shields Gazette quoted Lascelles as saying that he is content with life at St James’ Park.

With that in mind, it would be hugely surprising if the centre-back left Newcastle this summer, but if it did happen, who would the North-East outfit move for?

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”271323″ player=”12034″ title=”Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus on Football Manager”]

We asked you whether Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson, who has been capped 17 times by Sweden, would be a viable option.

It is clear that the centre-back is not quite up to Lascelles’s standard, but he has been a key player and leader for the Whites and it is time for him to be tested at the top level.

However, the results of our poll indicate that Newcastle fans would not be best pleased if Jansson signed in the next few weeks.

Wilmar Barrios the ultimate midfield upgrade for West Ham United this summer

Every West Ham fan is right now very happy with the summer business conducted around the club so far.

Many fans never thought they would see the day that the Hammers spend £35 million on one single player like Felipe Anderson and as well as the Brazilian, six other new faces have arrived at the London Stadium. Times are finally looking brighter in Stratford but their spending shouldn’t stop now as their central-midfielders still need improving.

Wilmar Barrios of Colombia was brilliant for his country during their World Cup run and seeing as his valuation marks him at £9 million on Transfermarkt, West Ham seemingly can’t go wrong with signing the bright talent.

Having reportedly made Pedro Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate available for transfer should a reasonable offer come in for either, the Hammers need to find a top replacement and Barrios could be just that. He currently plays alongside former Hammers hero Carlos Tevez at Boca Juniors and after seeing his terrier-like performances in the World Cup, the 24-year-old could not only be a replacement but a massive improvement on either Obiang or Kouyate.

The Hammers will hope that along with fellow new midfielder Jack Wilshere, West Ham’s midfield woes could be forgotten from last season and significantly improved on. Their hard work in the summer could finally allow the promise of European football to be delivered to the fans, something in turn that will turn doubters of the owners into believers once more.

If they continue to put their money where their mouth is, Wilmar Barrios is the next man West Ham must look to buy.

Raheem Sterling’s contract should be the priority for Man City

There is absolutely no disputing that Raheem Sterling was a revelation at Manchester City last season under Pep Guardiola, but he struggled to emulate his form on the international stage during England’s World Cup campaign.

Sterling (valued at £81 million by Transfermarkt) scored 23 goals and provided 17 assists from 40 appearances for Man City last season before jetting off to Russia. In a right-wing role Sterling combined brilliantly with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva and Leroy Sane, silencing his doubters all the while.

But those doubters return to the surface during the World Cup to unleash a barrage of scathing criticism in the direction of a player who provided plenty of invention and desire to make things happen in the final third, which is more than most could say in England white.

Whether they had solid grounds for criticism is up for debate, but there’s no doubt that Sterling failed to emulate the level of performance he consistently displayed throughout City’s record-breaking 2017/18 season and, his failure to do so could prevent him from earning a mega-money new deal at the club according to the Daily Telegraph.

The report claims that Sterling’s advisers were hoping the 23-year-old would enjoy himself in Russia and convince the powers that be at Man City that he is worthy of joining the likes of De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero as one of the club’s top earners.

With Sterling’s World Cup showing to consider, there’s no doubt he would be pushing ambitious terms forward by suggesting his wage should match that of De Bruyne.

However, that should not prevent the club from offering Sterling an improvement on his current deal, as his presence at City is vital to their future aspirations.

Now that the Jorginho and Mahrez sagas have been concluded, City’s focus must be solely on securing Sterling’s future in the coming weeks in order to avoid any mid-season distractions which the British media will inevitably throw up if negotiations drag on.

Whether Man City will turn towards an alternative to Jorginho in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but either way they must ensure that Sterling’s new deal is at the forefront of their plans before the season kicks off in August.

It’s about time Manchester United finally signed this £49.5m-rated World Cup winner

Manchester United have had a slowish summer in terms of transfers, with only Fred, Diogo Dalot, and Lee Grant coming through the door thus far for Jose Mourinho.

With two weeks remaining until the transfer window slams firmly shut, the Red Devils fans will be hoping to see Mourinho make at least one more big money swoop, however, for a club like United, only the best will do.

Despite already having a plethora of talent in attacking areas, we at the Transfer Tavern believe you can never have enough world class players in attacking areas, and with Anthony Martial potentially on his way out of the club, we’ve been looking at some potential replacements for the Frenchman.

One player we have admired for quite some time is German forward Thomas Muller, who has been a long term transfer target United but has so far failed to sort out a move to the Premier League.

The £49.5m-rated World Cup winner is a class act, and always seems to show up on the biggest stage, despite having a quiet summer over in Russia this time out.

Muller though is a guarantee of goals and workrate, and his ability to play across all the attacking positions make him a valuable asset for any team.

At 28, he still has some of his best years ahead of him, and having achieved everything he could want to over in Munich, a move to Old Trafford and the chance to wrestle the title back for United from rivals City, could prove too tempting to turn down.

United fans, what do you think? Good signing? Let us know in the comments!

Wolves fans are ecstatic about the arrival of Leander Dendoncker

Wolves have officially confirmed their deadline day capture of Leander Dendoncker from Anderlecht.

Dendoncker has arrived at Molineux on an initial season-long loan deal, which will be made permanent next summer.

The Belgian was named in Roberto Martinez’ World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament, and  played in the group stage fixture against England.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”275402″ player=”12034″ title=”Should Spurs Fans Be Concerned By Lack Of Transfers”]

Many will be expecting the midfielder to reach his full potential in England, and the 23-year-old certainly has the quality to have an impact in the Premier League. A series of strong seasons in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League suggest he is now ready to make the step up.

Wolves look to have bought well so far this summer, with the likes of Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Adama Traore, amongst others, having swelled the ranks already at Nuno Espirito Santo’s disposal.

Wolves fans are certainly excited by this latest addition to their squad, and many have taken to Twitter to welcome Dendoncker to the club…
