Southampton fans hated Wesley Hoedt’s performance vs West Ham

Southampton’s relegation fears have been heightened after a damaging defeat away to West Ham United on Saturday. Losing 3-0 to their fellow relegation rivals, Mark Hughes’ side failed to perform again when it really mattered, leaving supporters bitterly disappointed.

Goals from Joao Mario and Marko Arnautovic provided the victory, with Saints failing to deal with the Hammers at all, especially in the first half with all three conceded before the interval.

In the relegation zone with just seven games remaining, it’ll take a massive effort to salvage their current situation, although they do have a game in hand over Crystal Palace above them.

Fans were upset with the result and performance as you can imagine, singling out defender Wesley Hoedt as having a particularly poor game.

Last summer’s signing from Lazio has had a poor debut campaign in Southampton colours and again looked off the pace against West Ham, struggling to prove he has what it takes to perform at Premier League level.

Arsenal fans pick out favourite Ramsey goals

Aaron Ramsey has not always been loved by Arsenal supporters during his 10-year spell at the North London outfit.

The Wales international has been struck by various injury problems, and some of his performances have been put under the microscope.

Recently, though, the 27-year-old has been producing positive displays on the pitch and questions are now being raised about his future at the North London outfit.

A recent report in The Sun claimed that Serie A giants Juventus are interested in potentially signing Ramsey for £35m, while Manchester United are also thought to be keen.

The midfielder’s current contract expires at the end of next season, and at the moment, he is yet to pen fresh terms.

Arsenal have left themselves in trick contract situations before; more recently Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, who were allowed to enter the final year of their respective deals.

Ramsey’s future at Arsenal continues to be a talking point in the background, and the club have a desire for the midfielder to stay.

On the pitch, the Welshman has been getting praise too, mainly for his incredible volley in last week’s 4-1 victory over CSKA Moscow in the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final.

Ramsey latched onto Ozil’s pass with a ridiculous flick from the outside of his boot and the ball hit the back of the net.

Now, Arsenal Magazine have been asking supporters on Twitter to relive their favourite goals from the midfielder.

Man United need to ditch all-star transfer approach and sign Tierney

Manchester United have ramped up their interest in Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, who is now their top summer target according to the Express, and will send a scout to watch him face Rangers this weekend.

Signing the Scotland international ahead of a more high-profile and experienced man would show that Ed Woodward’s Harlem Globetrotters transfer approach may be a thing of the past and that Jose Mourinho is beginning to understand the club’s tradition of developing their own players.

What’s the story, then?

The report states that Tierney – valued at just £4.5m by Transfermarkt – has moved to the top of Mourinho’s shortlist as the former Inter manager prioritises left-back as an area to improve in the summer.

Apparently, Jose will have the Scotsman watched in the Old Firm derby and has spoken to former Scotland manager Craig Brown about the full-back’s development.

It will not be easy, as Tierney has a Celtic contract that runs until 2023 but Mourinho has reportedly told Woodward to break the bank to get the deal done.

It would be a proper Manchester United signing

With the signings of Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, it felt almost like United were more concerned with attracting clicks and headlines across the world than they were about how the players would fit in at the club.

For example, Lukaku, Sanchez and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well, have all hamstrung the development of Marcus Rashford in terms of gametime and the young Englishman is exactly the kind of player who would have been at the forefront of plans under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Obviously the Scottish connection is easy to make, but Tierney feels like another player Ferguson would sign – young, hungry, ambitious and used to playing for a huge British club.

Other players – Alex Sandro or Jordi Alba, for example – might attract more publicity but Tierney is a transfer that would be made with affairs on the pitch put first. That’s why it shows Mourinho is really the man in charge, not money man Woodward.

Tottenham fans react as Federico Fazio struggles in Roma defeat to Liverpool

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Federico Fazio suffered a nightmare night as AS Roma were beaten 5-2 by Liverpool in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at Anfield on Tuesday night, and Spurs fans were quick to react to the £9m-rated centre-back’s display.

The 31-year-old lined up as part of a three-man defence against Jurgen Klopp’s in-form attacking trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane, and the high line they tried to play proved to be a disaster as they found themselves 2-0 down at the break, and then 5-0 behind with more than 20 minutes still left to play.

Spurs signed the Argentina international from Sevilla in 2014, but he struggled and only made 32 appearances in all competitions for the club before re-joining the La Liga club on loan, and then eventually signing permanently with Roma last summer.

Tottenham supporters, who continue to heap praise on one of Fazio’s old centre-back partners Jan Vertonghen, took to social media to give their thoughts on his latest performance, and while one described him as “worse than Lovren”, another said “that’s why we got rid of Fazio”.

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

Everton should look elsewhere after Vieira links

According to reports, Everton are interested in making Patrick Vieira their next manager, as the Toffees consider options to replace Sam Allardyce.

What’s the story?

It’s been a pretty difficult season for Sam Allardyce and Everton, as fans have been left frustrated by the performances regardless of what results they yield.

The Metro now claims Patrick Vieira is on the shortlist of candidates to replace Big Sam, despite the Frenchman being heavily linked with a return to Arsenal.

Marco Silva and Paulo Fonseca have both been linked with moves to Goodison, but the report claims Everton owner Farhad Moshiri is a “keen admirer” of Vieira.

The Frenchman is currently in charge of MLS side New York City FC, after spending four years as part of the youth setup at Manchester City.

Good fit at Goodison?

There’s no question Everton need to replace Sam Allardyce this summer, as the relationship between the fans and the former England manager has simply become too toxic to salvage.

Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca is a name lots of fans have loved the links to, and it’s clear fans share the same philosophy as the club in wanting a young, dynamic coach to replace Big Sam.

Vieira currently has a 45 per cent win rate as manager of New York City, a side which relies heavily on the goals of Spain legend David Villa.

Despite his relative success in the United States though, the jump to Goodison might just be too much for Vieira, who has absolutely zero senior managerial experience in Europe.

Everton are right to seek a young, exciting manager to inspire the players and fans, but they would be much better served pursuing the likes of Fonseca and Silva than the former Arsenal superstar.

Another alternative for the Toffees could be to offer Arsene Wenger a short term deal, and give Vieira the job once he racks up some more experience.

So, Everton fans, would you like Vieira to replace Big Sam this summer? Let us know by voting in the poll below…

Leeds fans fearing the worst for Pearce contract talks

Leeds fans are fearing the worst over the future of Tom Pearce, despite reports the youngster will enter fresh contract talks this week.

It’s been a pretty long season for Leeds fans this season, but there has unquestionably been one silver lining – the rise of several young players.

Paul Heckingbottom replaced Thomas Christiansen in February and has come under plenty of criticism from fans, picking up just four wins since taking the helm.

If there’s one thing the ex-Barnsley man has got right it is his trust in youth, giving chances to impressive youngsters like Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Paudie O’Connor, Ryan Edmondson and Tom Pearce.

Peacock-Farrell and Pearce have been particularly impressive, and the club are now desperate to tie Pearce down to a new contract.

The 20 year-old full back’s contract runs out this summer, but he will enter fresh contract talks this week.

Pearce was an Everton academy player, and is reportedly attracting interest from his former club.

Fans have been reacting to the news on Twitter, and they don’t seem too confident they can hang on to the impressive youngster…

Marcel Brands will be instant Everton hero if he convinces Ademola Lookman to stay

According to reports in The Telegraph, new Everton director of football Marcel Brands will be holding talks with winger Ademola Lookman’s representatives in an effort to convince him that his future lies at Goodison Park.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the speedy 20-year-old has found first-team starts hard to come by for the Merseyside outfit after joining them from Charlton Athletic in January 2017, and he found himself out of favour under Ronald Koeman and then Sam Allardyce this season.

The winger – against Allardyce’s advice – chose to join Bundesliga club RB Leipzig on loan until the end of the campaign during the previous January transfer window following the signing of Theo Walcott, and he made a big impact when he was handed an opportunity to impress.

Lookman may well be tempted to look into a permanent move to Germany, but The Telegraph says that Brands, who can help take the club to the next level by completing another huge £70m deal, will do everything he can to ensure the two parties come to an agreement that would see the England U21 international stay where he is.

How did Lookman do this season?

It was a tough campaign for the attacker as he made just 16 appearances in all competitions from July through until the end of January, playing just 152 minutes of Premier League football across seven outings.

Despite impressing as a substitute in the 2-1 FA Cup defeat against arch-rivals Liverpool at the start of 2018, he didn’t play another minute for the Merseyside outfit for the rest of the month before joining RB Leipzig on deadline day.

The 20-year-old went on to score five goals and provide a further four assists in just 11 games for the German club, showing the quality and potential that he has.

Is Brands right to convince him to stay?

He certainly is.

Everton pulled off something of a coup by fighting off interest from other Premier League clubs for the young winger, and it would be wrong of them to sell the 20-year-old without giving him a proper chance – especially after seeing his form for Leipzig.

With Henry Onyekuru set for another loan spell away and Yannick Bolasie struggling to regain his form after returning from a long-term injury, the left wing spot appears to be up for grabs during the pre-season, and Lookman has the quality to fill the role.

If Brands does succeed in his mission it will impress Toffees fans, and show that he is far more capable of completing his role successfully than his predecessor Steve Walsh.

Liverpool fans think Fekir is ideal replacement for Coutinho

Philippe Coutinho’s departure from Liverpool to Barcelona in January was not entirely unexpected.

However, many thought that Jurgen Klopp would have recruited a replacement within the winter window.

It did not transpire in the end, so it seems that a new attacking midfielder will be on the transfer wishlist this summer.

According to The Guardian, the Reds will step up their pursuit of Lyon star Nabil Fekir, who is valued at £45m by Transfermarkt.

The 24-year-old scored 23 goals and created eight assists in 40 appearances in all competitions this season.

The France international, who received a call-up to the World Cup squad, has similar attributes to Coutinho, and he is also very versatile.

Fekir predominantly plays in an attacking midfield position, but he can also switch to the right wing and has on occasion played as a centre-forward.

Liverpool fans have been getting excited by the prospect of the attack-minded star joining Klopp’s revolution, and it is easy to see why.

The Frenchman will provide an added boost to an already formidable force, which includes Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Many supporters think that Fekir is the right replacement for Coutinho.

Revealed: 61% of Man United fans feel bumper price is fair for Milinkovic-Savic

Manchester United may have avoided the nightmare scenario where they finish the season trophyless while Liverpool and Manchester City scoop the two biggest prizes on offer but there is no doubt that Jose Mourinho requires reinforcements this summer.

The thrilling nature of Liverpool’s rampage into the Champions League final and the beautiful football played by Pep Guardiola’s record-breaking Manchester City team throw Mourinho’s stodgy United side into stark contrast and the erratic and boring style of play will stop washing with the majority of their fanbase if it is not bringing trophies to Old Trafford.

One man who has been linked with a move to United to bolster Mourinho’s midfield options is Sergej Milinkovic-Savic but reports suggest that United had been put off by the bumper £87.5m pricetag slapped on his head by Lazio.

So we asked you whether that valuation was fair and it turns out the majority of you do; 61 per cent of Reds fans think it is a price worth paying for the midfield powerhouse…

Leeds fans want to use Villa turmoil to grab Kodjia

Leeds fans are eyeing up moves for Aston Villa players, after news broke that the Villans could be forced into administration.

According to BBC Sport reporter Richard Conway, “administration may be inevitable” at Villa Park, and Leeds fans are wasting no time eyeing up some bargain summer deals.

If Villa do survive, it will likely be from selling all their best and most valuable players, and Leeds certainly won’t be the only Championship club sniffing around for a bargain.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”252976″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch 21 things that will definitely happen at the World Cup”]

That said, fans are all agreeing a move for Jonathan Kodjia would be wise, as Paul Heckingbottom’s biggest problem was undoubtedly the lack of a proper goalscorer.

The ex-Barnsley man was of course sacked last week, and fans are hoping Kodjia can recapture his incredible goalscoring knack under new management at Elland Road.

While there are a few shouts for the likes of Jack Grealish and James Chester, Kodjia, who scored 19 league goals two seasons in a row before his 2017-18 was destroyed by injuries, is definitely the pick of the bunch.

The towering Ivory Coast international could form quite the partnership with heavily linked Abel Hernandez, and you can find some of the best Twitter reactions down below…
